Hi I'm Laurie

I am a happy wife and mother, outdoor adventurer, and a dietitian. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have been a highly active person my whole life, from sports to friends to church; I just like to be involved. Sports were a main part of my life growing up, especially soccer and skiing. Every free second between athletics, work, and school was spent with my friends or family. Around fall time my junior year of high school, my growing desire to travel reached a peak and I applied to be a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. This took me to Italy my senior year of high school, where I lived with a wonderful Italian family on the island of Sardinia for 11 months. It was on this exchange that an immense gratitude to Heavenly Father overcame me, and I decided I would serve a mission one day. After returning back to Utah, I spent a few years going to University, and when the time came, I was off to Italy again-- but this time as a full-time missionary. Those 18 months are very precious and sacred to me, and my gratitude to Heavenly Father only expanded. My life has continued to be rich with blessings and happiness. I am married to a wonderful man and we have a beautiful son. I have completed an intense program at college and received my undergraduate degree. Now my little family lives in Illinois where my husband attends school and I work part time and get to spend most my time with my little buddy boy.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because over many years, I have developed an unshakable testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church here upon the earth. One of my earliest spiritual experiences was as a 12 year old girl. I remember in a meeting my mother stood up and bore her testimony of Christ and this church, and I felt my heart explode with warmth and joy. I could feel the spirit telling me that what she was saying was true. That is not enough for a strong testimony however, and from that point on I have had to build on that experience to come to know for myself that this church was true. Through living the principles of the gospel and honestly seeking answers, I have had countless more experiences of feeling the spirit and feeling love and peace from Heavenly Father. When I first read the Book of Mormon with real intent, it was mind blowing. I could hardly believe the precious truths it contained. I know without a doubt that anyone looking for the truth can turn to Father in heaven in prayer, and that He will answer. I know that He loves each and every one of us, that Jesus is the Savior of the world, and that this is His organized church. I know prophets walk the earth today and teach us what God would have us know to be happy and return to Him. I know the scriptures are powerful and true. I hope that anyone who reads this might feel the spirit and have the desire to learn more. This gospel brings direction, light, and everlasting joy to me, and I know it will for you too.

How I live my faith

My faith in Jesus Christ is the center of my life. It is my driving force, my motivator, my reason for being. I read my scriptures so I can learn of Him, I go to church every week so I can stay close to Him. My husband and I read and pray together, visit the temple as often as we can, and strive to keep our covenants. We do all this because we love and believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Right now in the church I am a Primary worker. I get to teach 4-5 year olds. I also get to be a special helper for an autistic child in our ward. To me, any calling in the church is really a privilege. It gives us the opportunity to serve others, and grow ourselves. Though life can be busy, I try my hardest to put God first in my life. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." When I put things like scripture study, prayer, visiting the temple, keeping the Sabbath day holy, spending time with family, etc. as higher priorities than the other things in the world, my life is blessed, and I am filled with peace and happiness, and the faith that everything is going to be alright.
