Hi I'm John Bertalan

I grew up in New Jersey moved to Florida, got married, have four grown children and am a semi-retired college professor.

About Me

I have been a college professor in the Tampa Bay Area at almost every college including Hillsborough Community College, The University of Tampa, Schiller International University, St. Leo University and currently I am semi-retired and teach government at the University of South Florida. I am in a fossil club. an archaeology club, and I compete in senior/master power lifting and weightlifting contests. I also like cars and have had several corvettes, currently I have a Jaguar convertible.

Why I am a Mormon

After taking the missionary discussions a second time, ...myself, the full-time missionaries, and the local missionaries fasted and prayed that I would know for a fact that the "Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ" was the word of God. Previously, my wife had attended some Catholic services with me, especially at Easter, and questioned who Jesus was praying to in the Garden of Getsemane, and while he was on the cross. This increased my sincere desire to know if the Church was true.and if Jesus and Heavenly Father were two separate individuals. I went to a private place to pray out loud and on my knees about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and almost immediately I felt as if it were a bolt of lightning come into my room and totally envelope every part of my body. I soon realized that I was not harmed and this was the confirmation of the Holy Spirit that all of us had fasted and prayed for. That was nearly 40 years ago and I have been an involved member ever since.

How I live my faith

Currently, I help a limited number of disadvantaged individuals in my church attempt to become economically self-sufficient through a combination of employment, internship, school and training opportunities.

Are Mormons Christians?

John Bertalan
Not only do we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior and Creator of the World, and that he died for our sins if we repent, but as a resurrected being he also preached this same gospel to the inhabitants of the New World, (North and South America) as recorded in the "Book of Mormon" and then declared that he would travel to the islands of the sea as directed by His Father to preach the Gospel to more of His Father's children. As recorded in the "Book of Mormon," He healed their sick, blessed their children and let 2,500 people feel the nail wounds in his hands and feet and the wound in his side. Show more Show less
