Hi I'm Matthew

I grew up in Idaho, enjoyed a well-rounded life of sports and music in high school, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love sports - I played guard in basketball, slot receiver in football, and ran the 110 hurdles and 400 in track in high school. I also participated in choir in high school, singing tenor, and was elected president of the choirs my senior year. With choir, I also sang with many honor groups and have had multiple opportunities to work with renowned directors. I play the acoustic guitar and write my own music. I have a small recording setup that I like to record my own written music with. This past summer I have been working at a nursery to earn money for my mission, which I leave soon for. I was also accepted to BYU, but deferred admission and scholarships so that I could serve my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, so the Mormon way of life has always been part of me. Yet when I turned 8 years old, it was my conscious decision to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I didn't understand all of the many things it would bring into my life then, but as I've gotten older, I see more and more why choosing to be Mormon was the right decision. The gospel of Jesus Christ brings lasting joy and happiness, and I've never felt a stronger sense of peace and calm than when I have been forgiven of my mistakes. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is real; He died for us, He died for me, so that our sins and mistakes could be forgiven and forgotten. I know that because of Him, I don't have to live with the guilt of doing something wrong after I have done all I can to fix it and then ask the Lord for His forgiveness. Jesus is my Savior, my Redeemer, my friend, and my big brother. I want to follow Him because I know that when I do, I am truly happy, for He is the way to happiness. I want to follow Him because I want to become like Him - full of love for everyone, and perfectly patient and understanding and loving. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, and that the doctrines and principles taught there are true as well.

How I live my faith

In my ward, I have served as a substitute primary teacher, so I've gotten the chance to teach basic principles to 6 and 8 year olds. It's so much fun - a lot of work, but it's amazing to know that I'm helping in furthering their knowledge of the gospel. I also serve as a home teacher - we visit 3 families. One family that I always enjoy visiting is a family of a mom, dad, and 5 girls, and most of them are young. It always makes me happy to visit them because when we leave, they like to give me hugs and it makes me feel good.
