Hi I'm Aly Larsen.

I love being an LDS woman. I don't hold the priesthood. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I feel no shame in being a woman in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am not held back, oppressed, or undervalued.

Why I am a Mormon

I get to live my faith every single day and have a profound impact in my home and ward through my talents and role as a wife, mother and teacher. There are 3 things I know (covered in the next section) that make it so I have never felt oppressed, held back, or under-valued as a woman in the LDS church. I have learned that there are things that need to be understood about the priesthood and about God's plan for His children in order to understand why I feel no shame or dissatisfaction in not being ordained to the priesthood. I am denied no gift from God and I sustain whole-heartedly my priesthood-holding husband as we both sacrifice, serve, and work to give our child a good home and share with anyone who will listen the peace and direction that comes from the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

1. The priesthood is the power and authority given to man to act in God's name. It is a link. It is what enables those things done on earth to "count," or be considered valid in heaven (Matthew 16:19). It is a gift, but more than anything it is a responsibility to serve. Holders of the priesthood bless the sacrament, baptize, administer blessings to the sick and sad. Men do hold the priesthood, but every righteous act done by the priesthood is meant to bless the lives of other men, women, and children. 2. Women lead, Women teach, Women play a role - Ever since I was little I have been giving talks in church meetings. I teach Sunday school lessons now. I serve in presidencies in my ward. The Relief Society was organized as the leading organization for women in the church. This is a divinely inspired organization meant to empower and put to use the talents and gifts of women in the church. 3. The creation of 2 separate and distinct genders was no accident. A man may hold the priesthood, but just as a woman cannot conceive a child without a man, so, too, can a man not fully exercise his priesthood responsibilities without a woman (Elder Ballard, "This is My Work and Glory" April 2013 General Conference). Men and women were created to want to love and need each other. It is ok for a woman to need a man for a priesthood blessing, just as it is ok for a man to need a woman for a child.
