Hi I'm Brenda Ball Heilig

I was born and grew up in Salem, Indiana. I'm a wife and mother of 5 children and grandmother of 20 grandchildren. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I graduated from Purdue University and was a stay at home mom to 5 children. I have worked in a variety of jobs in my early and later life including the space industry, retail sales, dental lab technologist, real estate sales, and teacher. I have also been involved in community service over the years. Family has always been top priority. I have enjoyed serving in many church callings over the years and serving a full time, 2 year mission with my husband, in the California Oakland/San Francisco Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I searched for the answers to three questions from the time I was a child until I was married with 2 children. When I heard the missionaries teach, I knew immediately that I had found the answers to my questions. I had always been taught that God the Father was a spirit floating around the universe without form so he could fill the universe as well as dwell in your heart. I had trouble identifying with such a being as my father, especially since the scriptures say I was created in his image. When the missionaries told me that He has a body of flesh and bone, I knew immediately that I was hearing the truth. Secondly, I was taught all about the ancient prophets in the Bible but was told that we no longer have living prophets of God on the Earth. I didn't believe that a Heavenly Father who declares that he is unchanging would quit calling prophets as his mouthpieces on Earth. When the missionaries taught me that we have living prophets once more in these latter days, I knew for certain that I had found God's true church. Third, I was never able to visualize three persons all together in one person. That sounded impossible and very unnatural to me. When I learned that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are three separate personages, I knew that was the way it had to be. The "being one" referred to in the scriptures means they are one in purpose and "being one" had been misinterpreted by man as being in one body. We are also told to be "one" with Christ but that means in spirit not in body. It was so exciting to learn that Jesus was referring to his followers in ancient America when He said he had to go to His other sheep after he was resurrected.. How wonderful it was to me to have the ancient American prophets' recorded scriptures in the Book of Mormon to testify as a second witness along with the Bible that Jesus is the Christ!!

How I live my faith

I have loved getting to know so many friends who embrace the same standards that I do. Through these good friends and the callings with which I have been blessed, some teaching and some leadership positions, my feelings of self worth and my confidence have grown immeasurably. I have enjoyed working with youth as well as adults and have found great satisfaction and growth in serving and loving others as the Savior teaches us to do. I have learned humility, dedication and the blessings of service through my visiting teaching experiences with the women, wives and mothers in the church. It brings me great joy to serve the needs of others. I have learned to listen and try to give uplifting council when prompted by the Spirit. I make the Bible and the Book of Mormon part of my daily routine.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Brenda Ball Heilig
Joseph Smith was the promised prophet of God called forth in the latter days to restore the true church of Jesus Christ in it fullness to the Earth. He is a true prophet just like the ancient prophets in the Bible. He was called forth to restore lost truth and to prepare the Earth for the second coming of the Savior. Show more Show less
