Hi I'm Marissa

I love to make people happy, especially through music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have grown up in Idaho and have lived here my whole life. I love it because of the small-town atmosphere and I love spending time outside doing things like hiking in the beautiful mountains. I have a passion for music--especially singing. I guess I could say it is my outlet, but more than that, I love to sing and see the light and joy that appears on the faces of those listening. Education is very important to me, and through high school I probably stressed myself out just a little too much with the homework overload I brought on myself.... :) I have always loved art and being able to create something of significance and see the finished work. I love spending time with my family--they are what matter most.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my Heavenly Father, and I know He loves me and each and every one of His children. He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to earth specifically for this reason. I know my Heavenly Father loves me because I have prayed to Him sincerely, and He has answered my prayers. In times of discouragement, sadness, and worry, He has comforted me. John 14:18 states, "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." I testify that He will. I know that the Book of Mormon, accompanied by the Bible, is the Word of God. God does reveal His secrets unto His servants, the prophets, even today. I know that the prophet Joseph Smith did indeed restore the fulness of the gospel, and he was given the Priesthood power needed to perform ordinances such as baptism. I feel peace in the knowledge that my family can be together forever, even after death, because of the sealing power that binds us. Last of all, I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I love Him with all my heart. Even though at times life is hard, I know that Christ understands me and will take my burden upon himself so that I don't have to. I have experienced it. Words can't express my gratitude for His Atoning sacrifice. I realize I am nothing without Him, but with His help, I am capable of anything, if it be God's will. God gave us commandments to make us free--free from sorrow and the consequences that follow. He loves us and wants us to return to Him. By following His commandments, we show our love for Him, and show our trust and belief in His Atonement. I am a Morman--a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints--and I love my God who gave me all.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Fort Collins, Colorado mission. I will serve in this capacity for 1 1/2 years, until June of 2015. I serve, teach, and love those whom I come in contact with every day. I know that this is the gospel of Jesus Christ. He needs me here to help in the bringing forth of His word, and I am truly grateful. We are all His beloved children, and He longs for us to know Him.

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

New members are baptized because that is what God has commanded. Baptism by the proper authority is key to salvation, and our Heavenly Father wants that for all of His children. Through baptism, we make covenants with God, and He promises to bless us. For instance, we are made clean through baptism and afterwards receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us in our lives. I would wish this blessing on anyone and everyone, for I have felt God's love, comfort, and guidance in my life through covenants and the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less
