Hi I'm Alan

I grew up in Utah and I became converted to the church when I was a teenager. I work and go to school full time.

About Me

I am a 'nerd' in almost every aspect. I love to learn and I love things like video games. There is almost nothing I don't like learning about. I even met my future wife by inviting her to an astronomy lecture. I can't wait to travel as much as I possibly can around the world. In serving a mission for the church in Detroit I learned that I love meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. I am typically liberal in political affiliation and am always trying to keep up on the events of the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I didn't grow up very religious. My family were Mormons, but it wasn't a priority for me. I started dating a girl when I was about 17 and her family was very religious and members of the Mormon church. The more I was with her family the more I learned there was something there that I definitely wanted when the time came to have my own family. They had a unity that my own family didn't have. I decided to give a wholly analytical look at the church since that is usually how I start my approach to new things. I found that there were things in this faith that I didn't see anywhere else. I found a religion that encouraged people to earn an education and always progress and grow. All this was great, but I didn't really know until I got on my knees to get an answer from God myself. I had prayed before but in asking if what I was doing was right I was filled with the most calm peaceful feeling I have ever had. I knew without a doubt that this was the right direction for my life. As long as I continue to do the things I know are right I still have that peace in my life and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Being a member of the church is very much how I live my life. It is in being honest with yourself and the people you deal with day to day. It is about not getting caught up in the behaviors of the world even while being a part of it. I participate on a church committee that helps teach people about our temples and to encourage people to learn more.
