Hi I'm Burke

I'm a Mormon; been one my whole life. I grew up in Salt Lake City and at nineteen, I went to Switzerland to preach.

About Me

I'm an aged father of eight and grandfather of fourteen, retired from a career as an architect and facilities manager. My family is scattered throughout the US now, and I'm busy staying in touch. I have spent many hours over the last few years writing my own personal history, thinking it would benefit my posterity. I felt I was just doing what many ancient biblical figures did during their lives. I hoped a few of my children and grandchildren might learn from my life. As an architect, I learned to design family homes and communicate those designs to those who would build them. As a facilities manager, I learned to care for larger buildings and their surroundings and improve them to better serve their occupants. As a writer, I learned to evaluate my life and to communicate what I have learned about living and serving to my children. As a humanitarian service missionary in Kazakhstan, I expect to learn how better to care for the needy of the less privileged of humanity and improve their situations to bring them greater happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

Our God, Our Heavenly Father, loves every one of us and has promised to give us answer to our heartfelt prayer to understand his truth. I have prayed regularly for his guidance, help and comfort. I feel like I've always had a deep assurance that what I do for Jesus Christ is appreciated by him. My motivation for serving in His Church comes from that sweet embrace of His spirit which I feel from time to time when I realize he is pleased with what I have done to bless His spirit children. All of us here in mortality on the earth are children of a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to serve each other like His Beloved son did, so that as many of us as choose to follow his commandments may fulfill the purposes for which we have come to earth. He longs that each of us will turn from our sins and long to feel his thankful embrace. Through His living prophets in our day, the Lord has taught us that our mortal life is only a small yet very important part of our eternal existence. He wants us to sealed together in mortality as eternal families and has given His servants the power to seal families. Our goal should be that we live our lives such that our family may be worthy to be bound as an eternal unit forever.

How I live my faith

Attending church regularly throughout my life has kept me on track, learning and growing in understanding the meaning of life and how I can best do my part to improve humanity. I have started as a father in my own family, trying to teach my children the basic principles of meaningful living by studying with them the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. By living in accord with the principles of the gospel he taught, we have seen our lives enriched and enjoyed many divine rewards. Recently, I have enjoyed helping the young missionaries in my locality by providing some transportation and accompanying them in some of their visits with non-members who want to learn more about our church. As my children grew, I helped them with their peers at church, learn to better understand how the gospel of Jesus Christ could better bless them as they learned to live in accord with the commandments He gave. I did this as a teacher in the children's' organization at their Sunday meeting, as an leader in the Church organizations directed to the youth and teen aged boys, both as boy scouts and as they prepared to serve as missionaries themselves. For a few years, I have also enjoyed teaching a gospel introductory class on Sunday's to the church friends and new members. Over the years as a secretary or clerk in a number of the Church organizations, I have learned the importance of keeping accurate records to give the church leaders an good idea of the progress and potential of their efforts. I have learned that giving of my time and abilities brings me greater happiness and helps me contribute considerably to the betterment of those around me. It has blessed me with an increase in love for others and has taught me to identify with their hopes and dreams as I do my part to touch their lives for good.
