Hi I'm Meghan

I'm attending BYU Idaho and hope to become a social worker one day. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah, but have lived in a few other places, including Germany. I love nature, food, books, and scary things. My parents and twin sister live in Texas, and my younger brother is serving a mission in Germany.

Why I am a Mormon

In 2006, the prophet of the church issued a challenge to the members to finish the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. I was 15 and decided that I would take this challenge as I had never read through the Book of Mormon entirely before that time. It was a difficult thing to do, because I wasn't used to reading scriptural text. But the more I stuck with it, the more I started to feel an intense feeling of love, unlike anything I'd ever felt before. This feeling made me so happy, that I would sometimes fall asleep clinging onto my scriptures in an attempt to keep that feeling of joy with me as long as possible. I was very lonely as a teenager and had a difficult time making friends; I spent most of my time by myself and felt like no one cared that I was even around. When I read the Book of Mormon however, I could feel that there was someone who noticed what I was doing, and was so happy that I was doing it. I figured that this feeling must be the Holy Ghost that I'd grown up hearing about in church. After reading through the Book of Mormon and feeling that incredible sensation of love, I knew I would never be able to deny that the Book of Mormon was true, and to this day I haven't been able to, even in times of intense opposition. There have been more instances where I have felt a similar feeling of love and light as I continue to live the Gospel, but I think that time I read the Book of Mormon entirely as a teenager was the first time I experienced joy that intensely.

How I live my faith

What I think about the most when I consider how I live my faith is, "is this what Jesus Christ would have done? How would He handle the particular situation I'm facing?" I consider Him to be my best friend, the one who knows me through and through even when I don't know myself. With this knowledge, I try to live in a way and show love and loyalty the way I think a best friend would; by showing concern for what He wants, trying to do His will, and keeping Him in mind, even when it's inconvenient to do. Because of this I made the decision to serve a mission for my faith in order to share with people what I have come to know. I have returned from my mission, but I still believe this is how I should live my life.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

The way I've come to know my Father in Heaven is through talking to Him through prayer and reading the words He has given us. You have to communicate with people regularly in order to really know who they are and it's the same with Heavenly Father; He'll be a stranger to you if you never take time to talk to Him. As I also read the scriptures, I come to learn more about the nature of God and understand why He has given the commandments that we follow. The words of living prophets are another way we can learn about who God is and what He wants from us. Through reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and living by their teachings, you can see for yourself who Heavenly Father is and what He thinks about you. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

In Matthew 4:17, it says 'From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.' The chapter talks about how Christ started His ministry, and did so by preaching God's word to the people about Him. His disciples were commanded to take the gospel to the world, a commandment that thousands of members of the church are following today by serving proselyting missions. The reason I personally served a mission is because I feel in my heart that that is what the Lord wanted me to do; to take His word and share it with other people in the world so that they can enjoy the blessings and the happiness that I have had because of His gospel teachings. The Savior loves everyone equally and wants all of us to have a chance to hear the words that He has given. Show more Show less
