Hi I'm Mistylanz!

Aloha! I'm from Hawai'i. I love dancing hula, spending quality time with family, & being a Mormon. :)

About Me

I come from a large family who loves to talk & eat! My family & I spend lots of time at the beach, swimming and barbecuing. On other days, we go to my grandma's house to pick mango & lychee fruit in her backyard. We spend hours talking & helping one another in doing whatever is needed. Family is so important to me. They always come first in my life. Living in Hawai'i is truly a blessing and a paradise on Earth. :) I'm currently living away from home as I study Spanish at a university. I'm aspiring to be an elementary school teacher. I love kids! My dream is to make a difference in their lives & to create an environment in which they feel loved & accepted. I began taking Hula dancing lessons when I was 3 years old. I didn't like it at first because it made my legs & feet hurt, and I would have cramps all night, but my mom made me go. I thank her for it now because it is my passion. Hula is the form in which I express myself in sharing stories about my ancestors. I've had wonderful opportunities to share my culture in various Hula Competitions. I’ve also had the priviledge to travel to New Zealand to perform with my Hula Halau or Hula Group. I dance hula because it brings others joy to see & because it makes me feel beautiful.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of this Church my entire life, but it was when I was 19 years of age that I received my own testimony of it's divinity. This was a dark and troubling time in my life. I felt weak & burdened down. The only thing I knew how to do was pray. I remembered my parents teaching me about praying to God if I ever needed help, so I did. Answers didn't come immediately, but for the first time in months, I felt peace. I felt an alleviation from the burdens I carried. I felt the love of God in my heart. I knew that He heard my every prayer. He guided me to a place where I found joy and a sense of belonging. As I put the Lord first in my life, He has blessed me with greater happiness than I'd ever dreamed of. I believe in God, He is my Heavenly Father. He knows me more than I know myself. He knows my capabilities. And His love for me is deeper than I can comprehend. I believe in God. This is great! But, why am I a Mormon? There are many other churches that believe in God. I researched. I studied the Bible & the Book of Mormon. And I have come to find that just as prophets preached about Jesus Christ anciently, as stated in the Bible & the Book of Mormon, they continue to do so today. These two books of scripture were written by prophets. Heavenly Father revealed unto them the very words which they should write to TEACH US how to return to live with Him again. Prophets speak to us in the Lord's behalf. And the fact that we have a living Prophet of God today, just reconfirms my faith that this is Jesus Christ's Church on the Earth. While doing this research, I prayed to know if these things are true. I knew that God would answer my prayer just like He did before. I asked God, and felt an overwhelming feeling of happiness & a knowledge of it's truth in my heart! I know WHO I AM, WHERE I came from, WHY I'm here on Earth, & WHERE I'm going after. I know that I can live with my family forever, even after this life. & I know YOU can KNOW these things TOO.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through small & kind acts of service. I strive to bring light & happiness to everyone I meet. I love to smile & give hugs, especially to those who are having a rough day. I know how that goes. Sometimes, a friendly smile & a listening ear is all you need to feel better. I ask myself "WWJD? What Would Jesus Do?". I use that to guide me in my actions. I'm not perfect like God, but I try to be. I took care of my animals before they reached old age & passed on. They are God's creatures and therefore have a special place in my heart. My dog Max, was extremely sick right before he passed. He was a big-sized American Pit-bull, with the most loving heart. I spent hours on end nursing him back to health & comforting him. I knew that he could understand what I was saying. He was one of my best friends. And I know that he is in a better place. Yes, I am an animal lover. ;) I pray with those who are in need of heavenly light, then I continue to pray for them in my own personal prayers. I go to church every Sunday. And I buy McDonald's for the less-fortunate on the streets. :) These acts may seem small & maybe a bit amusing? ;) But I know that they go a long way. Service blesses lives.
