Hi I'm Annette

I have lived in Sydney my whole life. I am a photographer, an installation artist, and a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am Annette. My Mother is Swedish and my father Maori, but I was born and have lived in Australia my whole life. I am predominantly a photographer, but I also love to write words, play music, listen to music, think about music, cook, sew and visit national parks. I collect indoor plants and shoulder-padded cardigans. And would really like the opportunity to use my handwriting on a cafe chalkboard at some point in life. I am at my happiest creating, and I owe that to my parents who have always encouraged me and my 5 siblings to immerse ourselves in culture, do whatever we love, and let our imaginations run free. And to play in the dirt, super often (and now we all have incredible immune systems).

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it's right. A friend once said to me that if you aren't sure if something is good or bad, just imagine if everyone in the entire world was doing it. To me, if everyone in the world was being kind to others, providing service, comforting those who stand in need of it, seeking education, spending quality time with their families, praying for the sick and lifting one another, and other key principles taught by our Faith, our world would be a truly better place. I need not delve into things not as desirable and what would happen if our entire world engaged in those acts simultaneously, as I'm sure anyone can imagine the calamity that would occur. I am a Mormon because I know that it's true. I know that it is true because I have lived the teachings of the gospel and I am happy. Truly happy. Guilt-free happy and 'I really want you all to also be happy' happy. There is no greater joy and nothing else I can tie this joy back to other than following the perfect example of Jesus Christ and His teachings.

How I live my faith

Each morning I wake up early to study the scriptures, pray and think about what I have learned and what I want to achieve during the coming day. I love this habit- it gets me out into the world, to see it as it wakes up and I feel lively and excited about life every day because of it. At church my assigned responsibility, or 'calling', is as a 'ward missionary'. This means that I help the full-time missionaries teach lessons to people interested in our Faith, to arrange appointments and whatever else that might make their job a little easier. I am the friend that sits with new people when they visit church and make them feel more comfortable. I even get to decorate the missionary notice board at church- bringing my two favourite things together: craft and the Gospel! I am also the president of our local young adult choir group, bringing my other two favourite things together: music and organising groups and events. I love our choir- we have a wonderful chorister and have the opportunity to touch the lives of others when we sing for them at both church and community events. It is wonderful to share what we know through music, the only international language everyone can relate to. These opportunities I have to serve are a perfect example of how every individual person on this earth is blessed with different talents and abilities- and how these are used to help strengthen other people and build up the Kingdom of God here on Earth. He really knows us as US- unique, incredible individuals with so much potential to grow and learn!
