Hi I'm David Swinney

I love positive attitudes, laughter, and happiness, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hispanics say this funny thing, Primeramente Dios (God first). Usually it is used as a witty catch phrase in departures, but it happens to be something that I believe. So, Primeramente Dios. I believe in Jesus Christ. Next comes family. I come from a family of 10. I have 4 brothers and 3 sisters. I love having Sunday dinners with my whole family. I love being surrounded by the people that I love. I love the mountains, music creation, listening to music, ceramics, motorcycles, rock climbing, babies, ice cream, camping, gardening and really just about anything outside of an office or classroom. For me there is nothing better than climbing up a mountain on a dirt bike, or going faster than a NASA rocket ship on a street bike. I love going to church with my family and friends. Don't get me wrong though, I do go to church to grow closer to my Savior Jesus, and to recommit myself to Him. Friends and family are just a really big perk to going to church. When I grow up, I want to beat my Dad in a wrestling match, and I am still deciding on whether I want to be a fire fighter, a pilot, or a doctor. It's a work in progress.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because my parents are Mormon. More importantly I am Mormon because I know that what my parents taught me, when I was a child, is true. I love living the gospel of Jesus Christ, because, through personal testing and trial, I have found it to be the one sure thing in this life that will help me to be happy, without fail. I have come to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints IS Jesus Christ's established church on the earth today. I am reassured of this time and time again. Every time I open the Book of Mormon, I know the church is true. Every time I communicate with my Father in Heaven through prayer I am again reminded that this church is true. Every time that I hear the prophet of the Lord, Thomas S. Monson speak, I know the church is true. Every time that I have asked the Lord if all of the churches are true, or if He has but one church, I am again reassured that He has but one church. The Holy Ghost has confirmed to me so many times throughout my life that God lives and that I am His child. The Holy Spirit confirms in my mind that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and i know for myself that that is the truth. That is, above all else, why I am a Mormon. It is because my Savior Jesus Christ truly did live and die for me, and still lives today. I know that He is directing only one church. His church. The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

The gospel brings happiness. I love living the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am finding that the only way that we can truly come to believe and feel of the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is by applying the principles that Christ taught. For example, as a child I remember hearing people talk about he joy that comes from serving others. That didn't click in my little brain, because as a child all that I thought was important was me being happy. That idea has been slowly changing year by year. Now, through personal experiences of serving others, I can add my testimony to Matthew's when he says, "for whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." I know that when we serve others, we feel the love of Jesus Christ; which love transforms hearts and lives. I have only come to know this through living the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact, I am still either gaining or losing my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, depending on how great my heart desires to learn and live the principles thereof. The way that our hearts can find this desire is through not only learning, but also living our lives according to the words of Christ. "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves". James 1:22.
