Hi I'm Gavin Pozernick

I'm from Utah I'm a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I love to be in or around water. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love music and movies of all kinds, I'm a runner. love the outdoors and hiking. I've watched the sunrise from the top of Mt. Timpanogas. I'm a missionary in the Salem Oregon mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the covenant, so that means I have always been a Mormon, but until I was a freshman in high school I didn't have a testimony of my own, but then someone in my ward bore testimony of Christ and it really touched me and that gave me a seed of faith that has grown into my testimony today. The Gospel has helped me be happier and my family happier. the gospel also has helped me just get through things in life. It gives me a course of guidance to follow.

How I live my faith

I just graduated high school, and until recently I worked at a grocery store. I attend church every Sunday.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Gavin Pozernick
Joseph Smith was the prophet of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When he was young his parents taught him to read from the bible. During his early teens Joseph was deeply concerned on which church he should join and from the bible he found an answer to that question. It came in James chapter one verse 5" If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not" Joseph pondered on this scripture for a long time before actually kneeling down and praying to God to ask which church to join. During his prayer God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph and called him by name and spoke to him. Jesus Christ told Joseph not to join any of the churches, but instructed him that through time Joseph would help restore His(Jesus Christs) church back onto the earth. Which he did, along with translating an ancient record with writings of ancient prophets which is now known as the Book of Mormon and is holy scripture comparable to the Bible. Joseph Smith truly was a prophet of God. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Gavin Pozernick
No, we respect Joseph Smith and are very grateful for everything that he did for the church, but we worship Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Gavin Pozernick
We believe that all people must be baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority of God. While Christ was on the earth He was baptized and He set the example for us, however many people on the earth do not get the opportunity to be baptized, or they are baptized by someone who does not hold the authority to perform it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does baptisms by proxy for those who have passed away to give them the opportunity to accept or reject baptism and by doing so it gives them to accept or reject Jesus Christ as their savior. All will get the chance to be saved. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Gavin Pozernick
The Word of Wisdom is like a health code to help us keep our bodies healthy and strong. Our bodies are a precious gift from God and it is our duty to cherish and protect them. In the word of wisdom we are advised to eat healthily and exercise enough and keep our spiritual health in good standing with God. Heavenly Father has also told us through revelation to the prophet Joseph Smith that we are to abstain from partaking of any: tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, illegal drugs. By following this word of wisdom we can receive spiritual and physical strength and be blessed by our Heavenly Father in many ways. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Gavin Pozernick
Being a Mormon is fantastic! There are a few stereotypes and rumors about Mormonism that put a bad taste in people's mouths and make them not want to join this church, but I have found so much happiness from being LDS and I have found safety and a closeness to my family and friends as we all strive to follow Christ together. Everyday I know I have Christ supporting me along with all the members of the church. Being Mormon is like taking life to the next level. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Gavin Pozernick
Mormon's live in a way that will allow them to stay closely connected to their Heavenly Father. They focus time and attention to their families and also prayer, studying of the scriptures, church attendance and also building strengths and talents. We are taught that all the knowledge we gain in this life we will be able to take with us into the next, so Mormon's try to gain as much knowledge and ability as they can to be better prepared to meet God. Being Mormon can strengthen your relationship with your family and bless you to live a life of happiness and peace. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Gavin Pozernick
The Holy Bible testifies of the divinity of the Savior Jesus Christ and it brings knowledge and help on what God desires of us in our lives. The Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon go hand in hand and support each other. We believe the Bible to be sacred writings and inspired by God therefore we place great importance on study of the Bible. What is the Law of Chastity?

Gavin Pozernick
God gave us the power to create children. This is a very sacred trust. God commands us to treat this sacredly by no having sexual relations outside of marriage and complete fidelity inside of marriage. Keeping the law of chastity will keep us safe and give us happiness in marriage and blessings from our Father in Heaven for obeying His commandments. Breaking this law is a serious sin and it will always lead to sorrow and unhappiness. Many of the worlds familial problems could be solved if people kept the law of chastity. For those who have broken this law they can always repent and be forgiven and be made clean through Christ. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Gavin Pozernick
Not only can a husband and wife live together for forever, entire families can live together forever in Heaven! “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). If under the authority of God's priesthood you get sealed for time and all eternity you can live with those you are sealed to for just that "Time"- this life and "Eternity"- the forever after this life. Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Gavin Pozernick
(2nd Nephi 9:6-7) ....and the fall came by reason of transgression; and because man became fallen they were cut off from the presence of the Lord. 7 Wherefore, it must needs be an infinite atonement—save it should be an infinite atonement this corruption could not put on incorruption. Wherefore, the first judgment which came upon man must needs have remained to an endless duration. And if so, this flesh must have laid down to rot and to crumble to its mother earth, to rise no more. This scripture shows that we are all in a fallen state. Which means we all make mistakes and sin against God. We cannot live with God in a sinful state, because He is perfect, but because Jesus Christ suffered the penalty of our sins for us we can live with God as long as we repent. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Gavin Pozernick
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has apostles on the earth today, because the Lord told us to set up His church built upon prophets and apostles. (Ephesians 2:19-20) In the New Testament after Christ was crucified there were 11 apostles left after Judas betrayed Christ and died. So under the direction of Peter and of course God Matthias was ordained to be the newest apostle. From this we can see that God wants their to be 12 apostles on the earth to be special witnesses of Him. Show more Show less
