Hi I'm Ella Rae Madsen

I love the ocean, vegetables, and art. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Santa Cruz, California, a small beach town in northern California. This helps explain why I am truly in love with the ocean, fresh vegetables, and art. Over the years the ocean has played a big part in my life. I believe it is our duty to keep it clean, thus why I studied bacteria levels and possible sources of contamination over the course of 5 years in high school. I am a Junior Lifeguard Instructor, meaning I get to teach kids ocean safety and train them physically with rigorous workouts. I also enjoy surfing-there is just nothing like the feeling of riding a wave with the wind blowing in your hair, the chilly water waking you up, and the sun on the horizon. I am a big fan of vegetables because food is supposed to come from the Earth. A novel idea these days. But how incredible is it think that we can actually grow what we put on our plates?!! God created the Earth for us to survive, so going back to the basics makes sense. Not only are veggies are colorful and healthy, they are delicious at any time of day! Art. I could spend hours painting nails, making friendship bracelets, crafting earrings, sketching, or watercoloring a landscape. I find so much joy in recreating life, challenging myself, and learning new things. As I work harder and harder, I can see this talent developing and it is a beautiful process!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the pure happiness, peace, love, comfort, direction, and knowledge it brings to my life. I have had countless moments in my life where I've seen God's hand crystal clear (figuratively speaking). I know He cares about every detail and wants my life to be the best it can be. As I sincerely try my best to live this Gospel, there is a real power that leads my life. I JUST GET SO HAPPY. I can't contain the smiles and laughter and bubbly-ness!!! And that is exactly what Heavenly Father wants-"men are that they may have joy" (2 Nephi 2:25). I know my Savior loves me. He know exactly how I feel at all times and is here to help. He has been lower than I will ever be. He atoned for my sins and wants me to be clean. I know we have a prophet on the Earth today to lead our Church in these modern days. The revelation he receives is true. I know the Priesthood is a real power. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God to restore the Gospel in the final dispensation, and I am forever grateful. He translated the Book of Mormon. That book is true. It will change your life for the better every single time you open it. I know these things. I don't know how else to put it. God is so good. The Gospel is so true. I feel extremely blessed to be apart of it. I know who I am and who I want to be because of Christ's example. Life is beautiful and I am so happy. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I am about to leave for Birmingham, Alabama, where I will be serving an 18 month mission for our church. And I can't help but smile when I think about it!! What an incredible opportunity this is to share what I have come to know so deeply. This Gospel brings unfathomable happiness, peace, and direction in my life that I will never let go of. The Savior's example encourages me to be my best self each day. When I try to look beyond myself and recognize the needs of others, my life gains perspective and purpose. When I do what is right it fuels my love and energy to keep reading my scriptures, pray often, and to serve others.
