Hi I'm Ruthann

I grew up just outside of Toronto, Canada. My parents are British immigrants and I am the youngest of 4. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to exercise, and I'm a personal trainer. I am a book lover, and love going to my neighborhood book club each month. I play the piano, mostly for my own enjoyment, and I especially love to play Christmas music around the holidays. I love to bake and find new recipes, especially breads. I married the love of my life in the Washington DC Temple 22 years ago, and we have three amazing children who fill our lives with adventures and joy. I also work full time, travelling with my company that puts on running events around the country. I am a wife and mother, full time, life is very busy, but we feel blessed.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were born in England and were baptized Anglican's in the Church of England. When my older siblings were young, they moved to Canada. My father traveled for work and at one time, found a Book of Mormon in his hotel nightstand. He thumbed through it and read the Joseph Smith story. He took it home to my mum to read, and she immediately believed it. However, the book was shelved. A few months after I was born my parents had a knock on the door from two Mormon missionaries. He noticed one of the missionaries carrying that same little black book, and said, 'I have one of those!' The missionaries of course, were amazed. At that time though, my mother was about to undergo eye surgery and so my father asked if they would come back another time. They returned about a month later and began teaching my family about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We were baptized shortly after that and I have been an active member ever since. I know that Jesus Christ is the son of a loving Heavenly Father, who has a divine plan for me. I know that Jesus Christ died for our sins, so that we can return again and live with Him. I know that because of this, I can live together forever with my husband and children. His gospel was restored to the earth after the great apostasy by Joseph Smith and by the power of God he was able to translate ancient records so that we can have The Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that this book is true, I have read it and prayed about it. Like the other scriptures, it is a testimony of Jesus Christ's ministry here on the American Continent. I believe that the Book of Mormon goes hand in hand with the Bible and gives us a full picture of how much our Heavenly Father loves his children all over the world. I know that we, just like ancient peoples, have a living prophet today, who leads and guides The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know that following his inspired counsel helps me to live my life more like my Savior.

How I live my faith

I have had many ways to serve in my church in my life! I have worked a lot with the youth of the church, and was recently the Young Women's President in my ward. It was by far, the most fulfilling calling I have ever had. Teaching the girls ages 12 to 18 to become responsible, loving future wives and mothers, and helping them to understand their divine purpose here on earth as daughters of a loving Heavenly Father. My committee and I organized camps and weekly activities for them as well as teaching them about gospel principles in their own class on Sundays.

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

I believe that our bodies are the most important gift given to us by our Heavenly Father. I believe that by treating our bodies like they are not our own, but on 'loan' to us while living this mortal experience, we treat them as precious and with more respect. Exercising and eating healthy shows our Father in Heaven that we treasure this marvelous gift. By not defiling it with tattoo's and drugs or alcohol we keep it pure. I am so grateful for the incredible gift of my own body, for the tool that I can be in His hands when I am eating right, exercising and treating my body as if it were a temple. Show more Show less
