Hi I'm Bekah

I'm a daughter, I love the ocean, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love doing anything outdoors. Hiking, snorkeling, and biking are a few of my favorite activities. I attended three years of College in California as a collegiate swimmer and water polo player. I now live at home and help take care of my wonderful mother.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it TRULY makes me happy. I've been a Mormon my whole life, but I haven't always lived like one. I went to church growing up because it's what my family did. I felt in my heart that it was all true and good..but I didn't have my own solid foundation that I could stand firm on without wanting to jump across the way and see what a different life could be like. So, I ended up jumping...and I jumped far! I was "young and having fun" and on the surface I was a completely different person. When people asked me if I was a Mormon I never denied it, i knew it was true, but for some reason I just felt like I was searching for something. At first I felt so happy and everything was so much fun, but then it wasn't enough. I had to do more and more and I just kept blindly searching for that thing or place in life where the fun and happiness never seemed to run out. But, it always did. But how could that be? Was I searching for something that didn't even exist? or was this just as good as it gets? Good thing for me, the answer was neither of those. It took some humbling experiences, lots of prayers and reflection, and the unconditional love and support from my family, for me to realize that what I had been searching for was there all along. The gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to love life, family, friends, and myself. It's definitely not "the thing or place where fun and happiness never runs out", but it does help me to draw closer to my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ who help me to get through every struggle and trial in my life and to still see the beauty and joy in life at the end of the day. I'm blessed to know that through my Savior Jesus Christ's sacrifice for me I can live with my family again after this life. I know that this gospel is true with my whole heart and I'm grateful for the struggles and challenges that I've been through because they gave me the opportunity to draw close to my Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending regular church meetings every Sunday and I also attend weekly devotionals at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. The devotional is just an hour long meeting every week when a speaker gives a spiritual message to anyone who would like to hear and be spiritually uplifted. I'm also a "visiting teacher". I get to visit a few women in my area and just be friends with them, help them if they have any needs, and share a monthly spiritual message. I also pray and read my scriptures daily. This part is key! Praying gives me the chance to personally communicate with my father in heaven and reading the scriptures gives me knowledge and calms my soul. Without these, it would be very hard to make it through the week from Sunday to Sunday.
