Hi I'm Larry K. Calkins

I am LDS or Mormon. I have had a wonderful spiritual experience by being involved with the Gospel of our Savior Jesus.

About Me

I was baptized at age 17 but did not become as active in my faith as I am now until I was 28. Since that time I have been blessed to marry a wonderful women who believes in me and strengthens my testimony. I grew up in Salt Lake City's Millcreek area and graduated from Skyline High School. I worked in the architectural trade as a design draftsman until 1987 when I took a leap of faith and moved to San Francisco to learn and work in the telecommunications field as a designer/project manager. I moved back to SLC in 1992 and now live in South Jordan, Utah. In 1999 I took a position with the Siemon Company as an instructor in telecommunication standards and worked there until I retired in 2012. I have two amazing sons, Chad and Kelly from a previous marriage, and inherited two wonderful step-sons, Bret and Shane through my current marriage. I am blessed with 6 grandchildren, Kristina, James, Nathan, Parker, Maya and Ella. I was diagnosed in 1998 with stage 4 Hodgkins which through professional doctors and the Priesthood of God and the Savior's blessings from the exercise of that Priesthood, I am still here 16 years later. I love golf, music and photography. I started my own LLC in 2012 where I consult in telecommunication design.

Why I am a Mormon

As I looked through my life and attended other denominations of Christian belief I kept hearing; "why would God do this or that, why has He abandoned me?" This ran contrary to what I knew about the Savior of the World. I attended a musical at the University of Utah entitled "Joseph". It was a representation of the life of Joseph Smith the Prophet. At the conclusion of the musical I knew that God would not forsake His children and that He would and has provided a living Prophet to organize His Church again upon the earth. Giving us modern day revelation and scriptures that help us understand more fully God's love. Peace in my being I have found in the LDS faith and why I am a Mormon. I have purpose!

How I live my faith

I am a supporter and volunteer for the Autism Speaks of Utah. Serving there helps me to follow the teachings of the Savior to take care of the poor and the needy. I currently serve as a counselor to the Bishop of our Ward. I have served 2 times before in similar callings. I find solace in service and being the recipient of service. Of worshipping each day, week, month and year the God of our creation and the Savior of mankind. I am certainly not perfect and I take comfort in the knowledge of the Savior's Atoning sacrifice which allows me to repent of those things that are inconsistent with His gospel teachings. Study, learn and implement the teachings found in the holy scriptures is my personal method of achieving a greater understanding of our Savior's love. "When you have come to the edge of all light you have known, and are about to step into darkness, FAITH is knowing there will be something to stand on, or you will be taught to FLY!" (anonymous) That is how I live!
