Hi I'm Chris

I am a college freshman who loves performing musical theatre, and having fun with friends and family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently live in North Carolina but was born in California. I have two parents and a little brother, all of whom are members of the church. Most of my time is spent at my mother’s children’s theatre, which I have been involved in since I was only seven years old. When I am not there I enjoy spending time with my family and friends playing games or keeping up with our favorite television shows. I also enjoy looking up fascinating facts about movies and media on my iPad. After graduating from high school early, I enrolled as a freshman at BYU Provo and completed both the spring and summer terms. I hope to major in theatre when I return after serving a two year mission for the church. I enjoy eating out at restaurants because it is a great time to talk and enjoy the company of those around me. Finally, I enjoy going to various theme and water parks and have thus taken many trips to Disney World.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has given me an understanding that I don't think that I would have had if I had not been a member. Living by strict standards alone has brought such joy to my life that I know that this is Christ's church and I know that if I wasn't a member, my life would be extremely different than what it is right now. This is partially why I want to serve a mission for the church. If I can bring at least one person the happiness that I have right now through bringing them to the gospel, I know that my service over the next two years will be worth it.

How I live my faith

Right now, the way that I am living my faith is through service. I am about to travel to Washington state to serve a two year mission for the church. This will involve long hours of bike riding, talking to people who are not of my faith, and performing various acts of service. This will be a difficult thing for me to accomplish since it will mean having very little contact with my family and friends, but I know that serving The Lord is the right thing to do, and that the service that I perform over these next 24 months will not only impact the lives of those people I serve, but will transform me into a better person.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Chris
We are asked to donate 10% of our income to the Church, because it is a way of showing God that we love him. We believe that everything that we receive is from god. Our possessions, our families, even our lives are given to us by a loving God. So naturally, It makes sense to give at least 10% of what we earn, back to the lord. Not only that but we believe that as we obey the law of tithing (giving 10% of our income to the church) we will be blessed. Malachi 3:10 illustrates this principle by boldly stating that if a member pays his tithing the Lord will "...open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
