Hi I'm Jerry

I'm a husband, father, martial artist, graphic designer, and art educator. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married to my best friend for 25 years and have one son who is my other best friend. I'm an artist and have been a marketing and design professional and art educator for many years. I grew up in California and spent much of my younger life at the beach dune jumping, swimming, skim boarding, and surfing (kind of). I started studying martial arts at a young age and have continued to study and practice it throughout my life. I love martial arts and the discipline it teaches. I'm a huge foodie, movie buff, art lover, music lover, muscle car lover, amusement park lover, and nature lover. My favorite thing in the world is hanging out with my wife and son.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I didn't understand everything, I chose to be baptized when I was eight years old because I believed in Jesus Christ and His gospel. After 40 years, I have a much better understanding and I still believe in Jesus Christ and His gospel and have seen the happiness that living the gospel can bring into my life and the lives of others. I believe that Joseph Smith was chosen as a prophet to restore Christ's church and authority to the earth in the modern era. I believe that we have a living prophet today that receives revelation to lead us through these troubled times. I have received a confirmation of these beliefs many times through the Spirit of God and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have always tried to live my faith by applying it in my daily life. I loved participating in the church's youth and young adult programs and learned so much from them about my faith and about service. I also had some of the most fun and memorable experiences of my life while participating in those programs. When I was 19, I served a two year mission in New York and had an amazing experience there teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. As an adult, I have had many opportunities to serve and teach in the youth programs as well as the adult programs. I loved being in the church's scouting program growing up and I have loved serving for many years as a scout leader. I try to participate in service projects within the church and also in the community through The United Way. It feels great to get my hands dirty helping others. I think I basically live my faith by trying a little harder each week to live a more Christ centered life, to do less self-indulgent things, to do more important things, to help others more, to be less worldly minded, and to be more spiritually minded. Some weeks are better than others, but I keep on trying.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jerry
Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We believe that he was a prophet of God and that through him the truths and authority of Christ's ancient church were restored to the earth. We honor and respect him, but we do not worship him. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Jerry
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He created the earth, that He actually lived on the earth, that He lived a perfect life, that He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane and died on the cross to atone for our sins, that He rose from the dead so that we might live again or be resurrected, and that He will be our judge. We believe that Christ's sacrifice can save us from sin if we repent and that His resurrection will save all from physical death. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Jerry
Mormons believe that baptism is necessary for salvation in the next life. Not everyone has the opportunity to be baptized during their life on earth, so we baptize each other in temples in behalf of people who have died. Those who have died may choose to accept or reject the baptism that was performed for them. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Jerry
Mormons are Christians in every sense of the word. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He created the earth, that He actually lived on the earth, that He lived the only perfect life, that He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane and died on the cross to atone for our sins, that He rose from the dead so that we might live again or be resurrected, and that He will be our judge. We believe that Christ's sacrifice can save us from sin if we repent and that His resurrection will save all from physical death. We pray in His name, we are baptized in His name, we partake of the sacrament each week to remember Him, we believe that He is at the head of our church, and we believe that He is our only means of salvation in this life and in the next life.
