Hi I'm Shelby

I'm a high school student, a lover of music, reading, and writing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Virginia but raised in California. I am a freshman in High School and I love singing, performing, writing, swimming at the beach, reading books, and spending time with family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I truly do. I was raised Christian, but got converted with my sister when I was 11. After a year or so, my mom also got converted to this church. Now, I am so blessed to be sealed with my family for all time and eternity. Before I came to know about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I always felt happy. But after my baptism, I felt a form of love words can't even describe. I felt peaceful, happy, relaxed, and like a pound of bricks had been lifted off of my shoulder. I know that feeling, was the Holy Ghost telling me I was doing the right thing, and that I was making my Father in Heaven happy. I feel even happier when I am at the Lord's holy temple. I love the standards I am taught at church: to be honest, true, chaste, trustworthy, benevolent, and doing good to all men. I also love the love I feel at church. Everyone is so kind and lovely, and they have instilled in my standards to make me a better person and they have helped me to become closer to my Heavenly Father every Sunday. I firmly believe that I lived with Heavenly Father before I was born. I also know and believe that Jesus Christ is God's only begotten Son. Christ atoned for my sins and was resurrected from the dead. I know God loves me (and you!), because we are His children. So, He has provided us with prophets throughout the ages to show us the pathway back to him. I believe after I die, I will go back home to God, and there I will have the opportunity to continue to grow, learn and progress. Because I know the fulness of the gospel can only be found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday. I go to seminary before school starts, do family prayers everyday, and say my personal prayers everyday. I wear a CTR (Choose the Right) ring almost everyday to remind me to choose the right. I dress modestly, and when I go to the beach I also wear a modest bathing suit. I know my body is a temple and love my Heavenly Father (and He loves me), so I respect my body by dressing and acting modestly.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

The temple is a wonderful place and so full of love. President Monson said so correctly, "There is no place in the world where I feel closer to the Lord than in one of His holy temples." The temple is a Holy house of God, dedicated to Him. Only certain Mormons are allowed to go into the temples because we must be worthy to go in. Nothing secret happens, but sacred things do happen. For example, eternal truths are taught, sacred ordinance occur (sealing of families), baptisms for the dead. Show more Show less
