Hi I'm Lauralee Cook

I'm a Blue Ridge Mountain loving southern girl at heart. I'm studying Restoration Ecology. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The only thing that gives me more joy and satisfaction than spending time with my friends and family, throwing something on the pottery wheel, or playing with animals is being true to my faith in the resorted gospel of Jesus Christ. I am a college student I recently received an Associates of Science and I'm working towards a Master's Degree in Restoration Ecology, I want to give back to the community by restoring damaged ecosystems. You could say I'm a kind of a hippy. I have done photography all my life and pottery is my newest passion. I also love pretty much every animal. One day I will learn to paint...when I have the time and money for it. I love traveling; seeing new places, hiking new mountains, and meeting new people. I am extremely goofy, and absolutely no good at dancing though I admire those who can dance. My "nontraditional goals" are to face my fears and to live life without regrets.

Why I am a Mormon

I consider myself to be one of those "lucky people" who grew up in the church and always had the opportunity to have my questions answered by loving parents or church leaders, and by God through prayer. But that is not to say have haven't had seasons of doubt in my life. Last year my faith was tested more than ever because for the first time in my life I had a reason to not want this church to be true. I still had faith in God and Jesus, and in the restoration of Christ's gospel through Joseph Smith, but I still had doubts and questions. So rather than let the doubt slowly eat away my faith I decided to be proactive. I studied and read the scriptures, and prayed for answers. I researched some anti-Mormon websites. But those websites didn't really influence me because over the year I realized that it doesn't really matter what other people say and publish, things of a spiritual nature must be discerned by our spirit. So ultimately, and I knew this all along, I had to rely on what my heart and soul told me. I found my answer through serious prayer and study. Now I know with assurity that this is the true restored gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth today. I feel like that was a serious trail for me but I am thankful I had that experience because the end result was that my testimony in this restored gospel has never been stronger. If you are looking for peace and guidance and understanding, this is where you will find it, though growing closer to God through His gospel.

How I live my faith

Jesus asked Peter in John chapter 21 of the Bible, " Do ye love me"? and then commands him " Feed my sheep". I think we all should ask ourselves, even on a daily basis, " Do I love my Savior? What am I doing to feed His sheep?" At this point in my life I have decided that I can best " feed His sheep" by serving a full-time mission. This means I will pay for my 18 month mission trip during which my time will be completely devoted to sharing Christ's gospel to all who are willing to hear it. I have been assigned to serve in Brazil for my mission. Some people might wonder why I would leave my home and family for a year and half to try and teach total strangers on another continent. That is because, they are God's children and He loves them, and wants them to have the same happiness I do because of my knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And I want to help make other people as happy as I am too. I wouldn't take two years off from school and leave my home unless I knew this Church is true.
