Hi I'm Debbie Richey

I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I love music. I like to go fishing. When I became a Mormon it changed my life!

About Me

I am blessed to be a stay-at-home mom. I love to do genealogy and have learned many interesting facts about my ancestors. I played the guitar when I was young and my children are carrying on that tradition. Our family loves to sing together. My husband's name is Manuel, he is an electrical engineer and enjoys computers. We have a combined family of 11 children and 11 grandchildren. We still have two living at home. Dylan is going to college and majoring in Biology. He is preparing to go on a two year mission for the Mormon Church. Chloe is 10 and loves to sing, dance, and act. We live in Kansas - land of wheat fields, hay bales, and the Wizard of Oz. We love to go on vacations in Wisconsin to visit my parents and go fishing at Potato Lake. We are very family oriented and enjoy doing things together.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of many different churches but always felt that something was missing. All of these churches were based on gospel truths, but I was searching for one that had all of my beliefs combined. I knew that Jesus Christ was our savior and that we needed to follow him and that loving and serving others was important too. The Mormon Church believed in both. It had answers to questions I had pondered for many years, and I knew in my heart that the answers they were explaining to me were true, they made sense, confirmed things I already believed, and added new insights that opened a new and exciting element in the gospel. I am trying to live my live in a way that brings me closer to the Lord, that will help me return to him someday after my life here on earth, and can help me bring my family together forever.

How I live my faith

I joined the church 16 years ago. At that time I was a single mom, with two teenagers and a preschooler. I was working double shifts as a waitress on the Showboat Branson Belle. My kids had too much time alone and not enough good influence in their lives. I was introduced to the church by a friend. She invited us to a children's activity and I was impressed by the wholesome values of the Mormon Church. I had been a member of several different churches throughout my life - looking for answers to my many questions. When I met the missionaries, they began answering those questions and I couldn't wait to hear more. I loved reading the Book of Mormon for the first time. It didn't replace my beloved Bible, it just added more history to it. I felt a good spirit as I read it grew to know it is true. Joining this church changed my family for the good. I changed jobs to have more time to spend with my kids and was able to financially survive. We started attending church each Sunday, reading our scriptures, praying together and learning to love the gospel of Jesus Christ. We moved to Kansas, I fell in love with Manuel, and we blended our family when we married in 2000. I have enjoyed many different callings in the church. I have worked with the children, young women, adult women, and now serve in the Family History Center doing genealogy and helping others find their ancestors. I love being a member of the church. It has put my family on the right track on the way back to our Heavenly Father.
