Hi I'm Connie

I grew up in Illinois. I am a mother of two 'homemade' kids and 7 adopted. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small farming community in Illinois with no knowledge of the Mormons. I am a Registered Nurse and Mom to 9 great kids (2 homemade and 7 adopted including 1 son from Korea and 2 sons from Brazil). My husband and I joined the Church in 1973 in San Antonio, TX where we were assigned with the Air Force. I enjoy music, volunteer with community preparedness organizations, like to knit for my grandchildren and serving in Church assignments. As a Senior Citizen, I am not content to sit around all day. I love to travel and have new adventures and opportunities.

Why I am a Mormon

I attended a protestant church while I was growing up and we continued on that path as a young married couple with two young children. I found I was having nightmares re: the future of our world and especially my children as I was reading a book entitled "The Late Great Planet Earth". As we invited the missionaries into our home, they taught us re: The Plan of Salvation - that our Heavenly Father does have a plan for his children to return 'home' to him and that Families are Forever and can live eternally together. The spirit bore witness to me through a still small voice and I knew that the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embody our Father's plan for us. I have been a Mormon for over 40 years now and have never doubted or regretted my decision for a moment. I know that my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live and that Jesus Christ leads this Church through Prophets living on the earth today. I know that if I stay true to the covenants I have made that I need not fear the future and I can, one day, join my sweetheart who has passed on too soon and live with my family forever.

How I live my faith

I strive to follow my Savior, Jesus Christ, and his example of kindness, purity and service. I have grown through spiritual experiences as I have served in many callings. I learn from others whether I am teaching children, youth or adults - or providing leadership to the organizations of the Church. The organization for women provides a vehicle for us to reach out and nurture one another as well as live up to our baptismal covenant to help bear one another's burdens and help to strengthen families.

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

The purpose of Church Welfare is to promote self-reliance and to care for and serve the poor and needy. In most cases, the assistance is meant to be temporary in nature. Welfare Services can extend beyond financial and food assistance to employment counselling to assist in self-reliance. Show more Show less
