Hi I'm Darryl

I'm a father and husband from Arizona. I'm a mathematician and love all subjects of art and learning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Arizona in a big family. I had the awesome experience of serving a mission in Mongolia (where I learned to speak Mongolian). I then went to school in beautiful Utah and became a mathematician. I'm now going back to school in the southern US for a PhD in the arts of math and barbecue, because I love thinking about interesting things and eating barbecue. I'm married to a practically perfect woman and we have four wonderful children. They are my greatest happiness. I love life. I love to learn new things, especially about the universe and astronomy and the human brain. I like to think deeply about mathematics. I enjoy playing football and snowboarding and mountain biking and scuba diving. My favorite hobby is to learn foreign languages, because I love to travel and talk to others and hear their stories. Sometimes I make bread. Or lasagna.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I found out that the Book of Mormon is true. I grew up going to church and learning the teachings of Jesus. But as a teenager, I wanted to know for sure. I started reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it everyday for a month. I wanted to know what everyone meant by "feeling the Spirit testify". One day listening to my older sister talk about her testimony of Christ, I suddenly knew that I was feeling the Spirit. And at the same time, I remembered other times in my life when the Spirit was speaking to me telling me about the truth. I knew for myself that God wanted me to know that the Book of Mormon was true. Soon after that I visited several church history sites in Missouri and Illinois. The same feeling of assurance came to me telling me that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that Christ had restored His church through Joseph Smith. These experiences were so deep and explicit to me. So a few years later I went on a mission to preach the same message to people in Mongolia. Many more wonderful and affirming experiences followed there and since I returned home. The Spirit has continued to testify to me about the scriptures and prophets so that I know I can always rely on their teaching. My faith has only grown since then. The Lord has shown me everyday that He cares about me and my family. He blesses me with opportunities to serve others and learn more myself. I still study the scriptures everyday and love the Book of Mormon even more than ever. And I hold dear the knowledge that we have a living prophet today who guides Christ's true church.

How I live my faith

I help with missionary efforts in my ward. This means I get to meet a lot of new people in my community and visit them in their homes with full-time missionaries. I love seeing how the gospel of Jesus Christ changes their lives. I love to see people discover the love that Heavenly Father has for them. And I like to help them out any other way I can. I am also a father for four kids. I try to follow the teachings of Jesus in how I love them and teach them and serve them. Being a dad is a great way to learn so many of the virtues that I naturally lack. My kids make me a kinder, more patient, and happier person.
