About Me

Hi, my name is Matt Gho and I grew up in Fairbanks Alaska and currently live in Anchirage. My mom side of the family comes from Barrow Alaska (I am Inupiaq Eskimo) and my dad side of the family comes from Chile in South America (both were converts to the LDS faith and met at BYU Utah). I went to school at UAF and UAA. I am currently math instructor at both the high school level and university level.

Why I am a Mormon

One thing that I love about being a Mormon is how it encourages us to be active in our faith. In the Mormon or LDS faith, we are often asked to be an active member of our congregation with volunteering our time to serve in the church. The service often pushes us out of our comfort zone but we learn to rely on our faith in our Savior Jesus Christ as we do our best to learn and grow in the service we preform. The service includes but not limited to giving talks or sermons in church, being a Sunday school teacher, youth teacher, primary teacher- the church is made up of people who volunteer their time to perform service to help build someone else's faith. I also love how our church teaches there are truths in other peoples faith. Muhammad, Gandhi, and many others of different faiths were inspired from God to help build their peoples faith.

How I live my faith

I really enjoy working with the youth in my profession. Many of them go through quite a bit. One thing I try to do everyday is show up to each class with a smile on my face and positive energy. Students have asked me about it in the past and I don't feel like I can give a complete honest answer because of the separation of church and state in our school system. Truthfully I pray regularly to have that positive energy to give to my students. It is rooted in my faith. Some days I go through some tough situations with students but then I pray in my heart for the Love of God to be with me so I can bounce back and continue to give that positive energy. Overall, I have a lot of fun at my profession and I appreciate the Love of God that He gives me so I can have that positive energy to give to my students. I appreciate my Savior who enables me to feel that love of God. I know we all mistakes but it is a wonderful thing that we have our Savior Jesus Christ that can help pick us up when we are feeling down and help us with the wisdom and strength to grow and develop the strength we need for the challenges in life we face. Life is a gift (that is why we call it the present) and I hope and pray that we can see our Saviors love (the Love of God) in our life and the many blessings we receive everyday.
