Hi I'm Ryan

I do Magnetic Resonance Imaging research. I am a husband, a father of two wonderful little boys, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am on the research faculty at a hospital. My research involves working with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems, particularly their software, to try to find ways to improve their quality and speed. I began this research while a Masters and Doctoral student in electrical engineering and have remained in this field ever since. My hope is that the research we do will provide some benefit to patients and doctors. I am married and have two sons (ages 4 years and 10 months). As interesting as my career can be, it is my family that brings me real fulfillment. It is fun to be able to spend time imagining, building, and playing with my four year old. As hard as being a parent can be at times, it is more than worth it.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ has guided me to everything in my life that brings me joy. I have a career doing MRI research; but it is my family, my marriage, my children, and my time with them that brings me fulfillment. It is through my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I am able to understand where to prioritize my time. Today's culture teaches us to find fulfillment in our possessions or in entertainment; things that don’t last. I have found that when I work to follow the example of Jesus Christ, I can find lasting peace and happiness. There are those who criticize this church or Christianity in general because of supposed faults of churches or individuals. They are missing the point. The point is that my faith makes me a better person. It makes me a happier person. It guides me to where true happiness can be found. The same is true for every sincere follower of Jesus Christ. I have seen God answer my prayers in immediate and miraculous ways. His love for me and my family has been reinforced through experience. I know that Jesus Christ died for me and was resurrected. I often feel his power strengthening me. I have personally benefited by following the counsel of prophets who live today and are guided by God. I know the Bible and the Book of Mormon are from God. I feel the truth and power of them as I read them. In short, I am a Mormon because I have seen the benefits that come from being a member of the Church in my life and in my family.

How I live my faith

One of the highlights of each week for me is the chance to attend church. I feel rejuvenated as I go to church and learn and talk about Jesus Christ. My wife teaches a class of five and six year olds. It is amazing to see their faith and their love for Jesus. I am part of a priesthood organization that teaches us how to be better husbands and fathers. My current responsibilities give me the opportunity to help lead our meetings and serve the other men in our organization. We also work to provide opportunities for the men to serve others and to share their knowledge and testimonies of Jesus Christ and his gospel.
