Hi I'm Jonas Bush

I've had a pretty average life. I'm currently devoting two years of my life to full-time service. I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Jonas. I was raised in the Mormon faith but I have had to gain a personal witness from my Heavenly Father that I am on the right path and that the Book of Mormon is true! I love to be outside (hiking, camping, etc.), I love to pretend that I'm good at sports, and I mostly just love spending time with family and friends. I am currently serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the official name for our church). I am serving in the Colorado Fort Collins mission, and it is super amazing.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in and love my Savior Jesus Christ. That is the most important thing. For a while, I was just a member because I had been a member all my life, and my parents were members. Then through seminary (which is an early-morning scripture class), my testimony started to grow and I received a confirmation that this church was divinely organized and is guided today by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, through our living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to a 14-year old boy to tell him that none of the churches on earth were true. I also know that he was given the power from God to translate the Book of Mormon from the golden plates. Sometimes when I have a hard time in life, I try to focus on the core doctrines and principles, such as faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, which is the Spirit of God, and enduring to the end. I know that as I base my life on these things, that I am on a firm foundation and that I am on the path to return to Heavenly father. Even when I make a mistake, I know that I can repent and keep trying to be like him. That is why I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I constantly try to look for opportunities for me to serve, and although I'm not perfect in any way, I'm trying to be better every day.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Jonas Bush
In the Book of Mormon, it says that it is by grace we are saved, after all that we can do. So that means, after everything is said and done, we have to rely on the grace of God to be saved. Then some people ask, why do we even try to be good if we have to rely on the grace of God anyways? The Lord atoned for our sins through the atonement. To have the atonement actually work in our lives, and cleanse our sins, we have to accept Christ and his atonement. To do that, we have to show it, in our hearts and through our actions every day. So if we don't accept Christ as our Savior and try hard to choose the right, repenting of all our mistakes as we go along, then the atonement can't work in our lives the way it needs to. Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Jonas Bush
Recently, the Lord changed the age requirement for a mission, and now the minimum age that a missionary can serve is 18. I am really excited because of this change. Not all members have to serve missions, but everyone is strongly encouraged to serve a mission, even the sisters. There is one exception: Young Men are required to serve a mission. It is still their decision, though. Show more Show less
