Hi I'm Sylvia

I was born and raised in Northern California. I married young and had 5 children. I got to be a stay-at-home mom.

About Me

I was born in Northern California. We spent about a year or so in Oregon, then came back and I graduated from high school in Susanville. I got married and had 3 children before I joined the church. I tried to make the marriage work, but it just wasn't meant to be. We got a divorce and then I met Elwood and shared the gospel with him. Fortunately he saw it the way I did. He got baptized and we got married and had 2 more children. We moved around a bit, then moved to Southern California, where we have remained for almost 40 years. I like to garden, and end up canning several things every year. For the most part, I am in charge of the flower beds and Elwood takes care of the fruits and vegetables. That is, until it is time to pick them. Inside, I like to knit, crochet and sew. I like to play with word puzzles and jig-saw puzzles. We like to have family gatherings at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, with as many as can come of the children and grandchildren. I love art, but have only painted one painting, which turned out quite well, if I do say so myself. ( Others have said so too )

Why I am a Mormon

When I heard the gospel, it sounded so good. I loved learning the part about the premortal existence. I'm a "Mormon" because it's true and I love the Lord more than the world. We have a prophet!

How I live my faith

I go to church regularly. I accept and fulfill callings, I pay a full tithe plus other offerings, I help others whenever the opportunity presents itself, I share the gospel whenever anyone shows interest and we share our abundance from the garden with whoever wants it or needs it. I live the Word of Wisdom. That has always been easy for me. I never had any of those habits anyway. The Word of Wisdom tells us not to use alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, or any other harmful or/and addictive substance. I read the scriptures, and hymns and Christmas Carols are my favorite music type. I love confernces, ward, stake or General. I have been serving my congregation in the library for so long now I don't even remember when I started. We have a vast array of materials for people to use when they teach lessons, give talks, conduct music, or just attend a class, and they forgot their own scriptures, which are referenced and used in most lessons. It is my responsibility to make sure these things are available and returned, maintained, updated and organized for future ease of use. The most common thing I do is make copies.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

We are blessed to hear from these leaders twice a year in General Conference. Monthly, we receive their words through our Church magazine, the Ensign. Show more Show less
