Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in Michigan and Utah. I worked for 32 years as a rocket scientist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and have a great wife, six wonderful kids, and 17 grandchildren. I am retired from a career with a company that built rocket motors, including the Space Shuttle boosters. I love the out of doors and my favorite hobby is wilderness pack trips using pack goats to haul our gear into the mountains. I am known as the family outfitter as I love taking family and friends into remote, high mountain areas. I also love growing a garden and I have enough room to raise a significant amount of produce for my family. Fishing is another one of my interests and I can be found on a lake most any time of the year.

Why I am a Mormon

I started life in a part-member family of the church. My mom had been a member all of her life, but my dad did not join until I was five years old. Once he made the decision to join, he jumped in with both feet and never looked back. His example is part of the reason I have chosen to be an active member of this church. I remember as a teenager how excited I would get to go deer hunting with my dad. We hunted with about a dozen other men and boys. My dad and I were the only ones to leave the hunting camp on Saturday evening and come home to attend church on Sunday. His example taught me the importance of living what I believe and that is my creed to this day. I served a mission in Germany as a young man and from that experience I gained a testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and came to realize how much he cares about every person that has lived on this earth. I married a wonderful woman over 40 years ago who has loved me in spite of my deficiencies and saw potential in me that I did not know existed. Her example has taught me that everyone has great potential. We are now entering a phase in our life where we will be able to branch out from focusing mainly on family and start reaching out to people around the world to help them gain a testimony of the Savior. We are excited to embark on that adventure. I know the Savior lives, I know He cares about us, and I know He wants each of us to come back into His presence. His existence will be diminished by each one of us that chooses not to return to Him.

How I live my faith

I have been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of my life. I have been active in scouting for most of my adult life serving on committees, as a merit badge counselor, a cub scout leader and in a commissioner role. I particularly enjoyed serving six years as a Varsity Scout leader of 14-15 year-old boys. Another very gratifying opportunity was to serve as a Bishop of a singles ward at a local University. I also really enjoyed teaching the 12-13 year-old kids in Sunday school. I got to do that for six years with my wife. I believe it is important to be involved in civic activities too. I served a four-year term on our local city council and an additional five years on our community's Board of Adjustments. I currently am a member of the community Citizen's Corps Council where our focus is on preparing our citizens to handle disasters such as earthquakes or disabling storms.

Are Mormons Christians?

We are most certainly Christians. We believe in living a life that emulates the life of the Savior. We recognize that it is impossible to return to our Father in Heaven without the grace of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
