Hi I'm Shannon

I love to laugh, eat and be happy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love anything to do with the outdoors, and animals. I am currently graduated from college and working, living with my dog Lucy. She and I go on adventures in Hawaii as often as possible. I've found Lucy does not understand the concept of relaxing at the beach...she always wants to be going and doing! She also loves to get sand everywhere, especially all over my beach towel! I love living in Hawaii because the people here are usually pretty loud and love to eat, so I fit right in. It's also nice to be able to walk or ride your bike everywhere since the weather is so nice! Right now I'm just focusing on loving life, becoming a better person and discovering who I am.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon when I was 17. My Mom and I joined together. It was a very special experience to share my baptism with my Mom. It all started when my friend invited me to speak with the missionaries from her church, which I did not want to do because I had heard some crazy rumors about Mormons, but I realized it was very important to her, so I agreed to it. After I agreed I began to get very nervous imagining it was going to be some sort of test and they were just going to grill me about what I knew about the bible. So I did what any kid does when they're nervous, I asked my Mom to come with me! After talking with the missionaries that first day, I was comforted by how much sense the Gospel made, it was very logical to me and not at all what those crazy rumors had led me to believe. My Mom and I had a great desire to learn more and after meeting with the missionaries for about a month, we were baptized. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, because I felt of the love of my Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ as the missionaries taught me. I felt how much they cared about me and how they wanted me to live my life. I felt good, and happy when I read the Book of Mormon, and when I participated in church and church activities. I felt a happiness that I had not known before this. Through becoming Mormon I have learned that I know Heavenly Father loves us. I know that his Son Jesus Christ came to this world and led a perfect life without sin, so that He could sacrifice Himself, for us. I know that through the Savior's sacrificing Atonement, we have been given a way to return home to our Heavenly Father, to live with him in eternal joy and happiness. I know that Jesus Christ was resurrected and that He lives! I know that the Book of Mormon is true and is a guide for our lives in this day. I know that Heavenly Father has blessed us with a living prophet to help us here on Earth. I know that Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to return to Him.

How I live my faith

I spent one year with my Mom in a family ward, and since then I have been in singles wards (which are church congregations specifically with men and women ages 18-30 who are not married.) I have enjoyed many callings throughout these wards where I have been given the opportunity to serve those in my ward. My favorite calling has been teaching specifically the women in the ward. When I was first called to this I was terrified...I don't have the greatest track record with public speaking (ex. in junior high during my first speech in speech class I almost passed out because I just kept breathing in air and talking really fast, but not exhaling). However, I found that when I prepare a lesson to teach others, I learn so much myself, and it helps me to realize what I need to work on in my own life. I also really enjoy family home evening which is held on Monday nights. It consists of a prayer, a gospel message, an activity, and usually treats at the end. I have found it a wonderful way to meet people and strengthen the bonds between ward members, and like I said earlier I love to eat! ;) My favorite is of course Sunday meetings where I get to go and learn of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and how they want me to live my life. I love being rejuvenated on Sunday for the week to come.
