Hi I'm Craig

I am a teacher, a physician and I am a Mormon.

About Me

Above all, I am a dad of eight children and grandfather of twenty-one. I have enjoyed about 45 years either teaching or in my clinic assisting the spiritually or physically ill, learn how to become free of their sicknesses. I love music, both listening and creating. I love to be in the out of doors, especially the mountains, pines, streams; as well as the beach and ocean either hiking, jogging, or camping. Animals have always enamored me and so, until these later years I have enjoyed having pets around. I am most content when I am creating something; media, writing, music, etc. and am an avid reader.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because both the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and serving in the lay organization that is the restored Church of Jesus Christ has created the means whereby Christ is upgrading me. There is yet much to change, but the journey is wonderful; “Man is that he might have joy.” For me, the joy and the ongoing personal inner changes are the greatest evidences of the truth and goodness of the restoration. As an additional note, I am very fulfilled with this theology because, in my weakness, I hunger for a divine relationship through which answers to my purpose on earth and in eternity come, and then lead to “a mighty change of heart”. Yes, like most, I want to grow and understand; world events, the purposes for my life on earth, sufferings, sacrifices, commitments, relationships, and my place and role in eternity. That is happening, I love my Father and His Son! I could also add that, for me, this gospel of Jesus Christ restored and clarified, (as it has always been during the course of human history, through living prophets) furnishes not only more consistent answers but also more questions than any other theology or science I have studied and I continue to read voraciously. Using some of Stephens Hawking's words, The "model dependent reality" of this restored gospel continues its consistency in the face of new science and a changing world.

How I live my faith

Being a husband, father, grandfather, and servant of God are the most demanding, frustrating, and fulfilling forms of worship that I know. I love my children and have sought, though not always successfully, to be their coach, fan, counselor, advisor, listener, leader, model, teacher and servant. Just generally being a friend, a listener, a helper, a servant, etc. fill my life. I love to know how and why things, both mortal and eternal, work. Seeking knowledge and understanding so as to be a more effective instrument in the hands of my Savior deeply fulfill me. My temperament drives me to explore the complexities of the inner workings of both the physical and eternal laws and realities. But, each exploration into the beautiful mind-boggling complexities leads to a deep love and appreciation for its simplicity. I have spent much of my volunteer life either serving in a missionary capacity, teaching or doing Family History, or with the youth as a scout leader, administrator, or advisor.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

One of the best illustrations of the synergy between faith, grace and works that helps us understand how grace is God's continual enabling power in our efforts to come unto Him and serve Him is found in Matthew 11 28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light. In the Greek, the yoke is not "easy" but “pleasing” and “focused on people” rather than systems or programs. This “yoke principle” helps us understand the works, faith, and grace synergy. A yoke ties two workers together, in this case Christ, whose yoke it is, and us. But a yoke is only effective if the two linked parties pull together, matching each other’s timing and pull strength. For example two small yoked and coordinating oxen can out-pull two larger but more independent oxen, though yoked. As we engage in or focus on the Savior’s saving work, with faith that He will then help with our work, He matches our strength and timing thus creating synergy. In so doing, He also capacitates us by making “weak things become strong” So our faith matched by our works allows Him, through his grace, by working through us to bless others, to in-turn perfect us. He can change us better by working through us than by working on us. Thus we too, receive grace FOR grace and continue from grace TO grace. Show more Show less
