Hi I'm Zachary

I am a recently married, first-year medical student. I'm excited to be welcoming a baby boy to our family very soon. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in northern California. I come from a loving and supportive family of six. All of us four kids have now left home and are scattered around the United States. I began dating my wife in high school and we were married seven years later, almost two years ago. Our little family will be welcoming a baby boy this February, and we are very excited about becoming parents. We are currently living in New York, where I am attending medical school and my wife is working full time. When I have free time, I enjoy climbing trees, playing ultimate Frisbee, biking, hiking, camping, backpacking, playing board games, putting together large jigsaw puzzles, collecting interesting rocks and shells, and trying to classify local plant species.

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to be a member of this church because having a faith in God and in His Son, Jesus Christ, brings me peace and makes me happy. I believe that God has always been very aware of His children here on earth, and that He can be an active participant in each of our personal lives. This is possible through personal communication with God through prayer. As a member of this church, I also claim that God not only spoke to prophets in biblical times, but that he continues to speak to the world though prophets and apostles in our day. By this means, all men and women may come to truly understand the plain and simple teachings of Jesus Christ that lead to happiness. When I live my life in accordance with His directions, I find purpose and meaning. I also find added strength and support to accomplish the things that are important to me. Ultimately, I hope to grow and improve to become more like Him. This process will involve continually finding ways to serve those in my community and throughout the world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to keep in mind that all of those around me are sons and daughters of God, and as such, my brothers and sisters. Although I tend to naturally be more introverted, I make efforts to reach out to others and to get to know them. I feel that I am my brother's keeper, and that it is my responsibility to recognize the needs and wants of others and to serve them. I do my best to improve myself both temporally and spiritually so that I may be able to lift others in need. To support my community, I volunteer regularly at a local health clinic for the poor and uninsured. In addition, at church meetings on Sunday, my wife and I have been teaching Sunday school to children ages three to six. We have also recently been asked to assist local missionaries in sharing information about Jesus Christ and his teachings to those who are looking for an understanding of their purpose in life.
