Hi I'm John

I grew up in Michigan, graduated Michigan State Univ. I became a convert to the church in 1992. Married to Norma Jean.

About Me

I graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Animal Husbandry and an MBA in Marketing and Finance. After an "all-expense paid", one-year tour of Viet Nam (thanks to the Army draft) I resumed my career as VP with Jewel Companies, Inc., then as VP International for Colgate-Palmolive. My last career assignment was as CEO of an international cosmetics and skincare company headquartered in Idaho and expanded to over 58 countries. The original firm was started by my wife, the Chairman of the Board. Married to Norma Jean. We have three children: Amy (married with 5 children); Jared (married with one child); and David (married with three kids). I am interested in hunting, fishing; hiking and climbing. I have climbed in Bhutan, up the western slope of Chomolhari; hiked with Norma from the eastern slope of Mount Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean; and starting from Manaus Brazil, motored 250 miles up into the most remote region of the Amazon River. I enjoy competitive running. In my 60's in have been the USA National Silver Medalist in the 300 Meter Hurdles, 400 Meter Run and the Long Jump. I have also been the National Bronze Medalist in the 800 Meter Run and achieved 4th in the Triple Jump and High Jump.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ was personally instituted by our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ, and brought to this current dispensation to give us direct access to Prophesy and Revelation that is needed and relevant to our time. After reading the Book of Mormon and praying on this matter for over 6 months - one night on my knees I heard the voice of God. He testified to me that the Book of Mormon was indeed a truthful and accurate translation of the writing of Prophets from Israel and the Americas. For this reason I joined the Church.

How I live my faith

I am active in local community activities like Ward Hikes and camp outs; enjoy service projects like cutting firewood for other seniors with wood stove heat. I really enjoy visiting with seniors, especially elderly single brothers and sisters. Service projects are a great way to get to know neighbors and really do good things for them - and really feel a sense of accomplishment. Ward activities like building a new roof; fishing outings on the local lakes; cooking for scouts; hikes into the Yellowstone Caldera; etc., are really fun ways to invite non-members to join in with members for local community activities.
