Hi I'm Sherwood

I am a retired professor of Engineering Design and CAD/CAM. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love computers and people. I taught Electro-mechanical Design, CAD/CAM, and printed circuit design and layout for over 30 years. I was a charter member of the first National Computer Graphics Association and helped design some of the first PC computers. Retired now, I enjoy spending time using my computer skills helping my wife create beautiful quilts for our children and 32 grandchildren using a computer controlled long arm quilting machine.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS faith, but like everyone who really becomes a "Mormon", I reached a point in my life where I had to answer the question: " Is this religion really true?", and the closely related question: "Is the Book of Mormon really the word of God?". As a young boy in North Carolina, my brother and I were the only two Mormons in our school. We attended the summer bible classes with our friends and had numerous experiences with other churches in the area, but never did I feel the assurance that they were the true church of God. At a very young age I began reading the Book of Mormon. As I read the book there was much I did not understand, but as I continued reading I felt a strong assurance that what I was reading was truly a record of God's dealings with the people on this continent. It was rational, it fit with what I had learned from my bible studies, and most importantly, it fit with my internal beliefs about what a loving, just, Heavenly Father should be like. Over the years, I have tried to live the principals contained in that book, and by the principals taught by the church that brought that book forth, and have come to know without any doubt, that they are true. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us, and that He does hear and answer our prayers. I know that He would not leave us without guidance, and that is why He gives us living prophets today, and why He gives us the promptings of His spirit to help us to choose the right paths. I love my Savior and hope to be able to one day be able to stand before him and feel His arms encircle me with His love.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have had many different opportunities to serve in the church. One of the most rewarding things that I have done has been to serve in a ward bishopric. It was great to be able to work with young people and others of all ages, helping to provide encouragement and counsel, and to some degree, becoming a part of their lives. My wife and I have also enjoyed serving in two of the church's temples. It has been a great privilege to participate the sacred temple ordinances that help to bind families together in this life and insure the continuation of those family ties in the life after this.
