Hi I'm Tim Gustafson

I grew up with very little religious background. After much study and research, I began to understand and believe.

About Me

I have been married for 30 years to a wonderful, witty, and loving wife. We have 4 children. I enjoy woodworking, gardening, and stay active with biking, tennis, and walking. I enjoy reading and cooking. I have two degrees in geology and worked in the environmental consulting field for about 14 years. I have been applying my project and program management skills in the banking industry for the last 16 years. I am a certified Executive Leadership Coach (ACC) and project management professional (PMP). I founded Applied Leadership Coaching, working with executives and leaders to help them unlock and reach their potential.

Why I am a Mormon

I have prayed about the truthfulness of this work...whether Joseph Smith was a prophet, whether he saw God the Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ, and whether the Book of Mormon is true. I received confirmation that, yes, it is true. I heard someone recently say, if you do not know if Joseph Smith saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, then ask someone who was there...ask God. He was present and will let you know that it is true. Pray to Him and ask, with real intent, if it is true and wait for an answer. Don't be surprised if a warmth comes over you confirming to you of the reality and truthfulness of the restored gospel. This work is amazing. The feeling I have when the Holy Ghost is present providing confirmation to me that something is true, that what I seek is God's will, that the direction that I want to pursue is aligned with Heavenly Father's direction is an awesome feeling. I am so grateful for individual revelation. I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ who know me and love me. I am grateful to know that Jesus Christ sacrificed His life for me. I am grateful for an Atonement that provides a path back to Heavenly Father through repentance, baptism, and other saving ordinances. The freedom which this knowledge provides has been life changing for me. I enjoy the work and the opportunity I have to help others to feel and experience this sweet goodness from our kind and gracious Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since July 1987. I have been learning every since. This has been a wonderful experience for me to understand more about Jesus Christ and his role as our Savior and Redeemer. I have served in many callings in the church over the years. I am currently serving as the bishop of our ward. Through this calling and previous callings, I have continued to learn about loving others and how I can help others to come closer to our Savior and our Heavenly Father. I am so fortunate to have such amazing people to work with in our ward and stake. I am constantly uplifted and strengthened by them as I work with them. I particularly enjoy working with our youth. They are strong young people trying to find their way. They are valiant individuals with strong testimonies and tremendous knowledge of the gospel. As bishop, I preside over the congregation, overseeing welfare matters, records, finances and am the primary spiritual leader of the ward. I focus on helping and encouraging members to increase their spirituality. I counsel, guide and teach individuals and families. I have found that when we focus our lives on fundamental principles and activities, we can grow and strengthen ourselves and our families. In order to keep my focus, I spend time in the scriptures each day reading and studying. I pray morning and night and seek to have a prayer in my heart each day. I also lead my family in reading scriptures (usually at night) and having family prayer. Our family takes time out of our routine each week, usually on Monday nights, to have Family Home Evening. This is a time for us to focus on a spiritual aspect of our lives (reading, watching a video, teaching a lesson, or participating in an activity) as a family. These activities help me to keep my focus so that I can keep my life clean, organized and focused on what Heavenly Father needs me to be to help others.
