Hi I'm Jacob

I grew up in Oregon. I'm an Eagle Scout. I'm a brony. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am on a mission in South Dakota. I will be attending college when I return home in 2015, studying Bio Engineering. I enjoy playing video games, especially the Legend of Zelda series, and games like Portal (1 and 2), Metroid (mainly the 2-D ones), Skyrim, Minecraft, and Mario. I also read a lot (mostly fantasy stuff), including Lord of the Rings (and The Hobbit), the Inheritance cycle, Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus, the Mistborn trilogy, and many other books. I love to play various games with friends, including a rather recent tradition of playing Magic: the Gathering together. Some of my favorite TV shows include: Doctor Who, Star Trek (all of them), Sherlock, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Jackie Chan Adventures, Warehouse 13, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (I like a lot of stuff). I played the trumpet through high school, doing both marching and concert band. I also enjoy academics, such as physics and math (and yes, I have done calculus because I was bored). I have a few siblings, all of whom are pretty nerdy. I have been a member all of my life, and am thrilled at my chance to serve a mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for several reasons. I grew up in the Church, and have been building my testimony my entire life. All of my immediate family members are members, which helps me to be strong in the faith to support both myself and all of them. This church has been a huge blessing in my life, from making sure I'm a good person to keeping me free from addictions and other sordid things. I am a Mormon because I know that this Church is true. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that it is a true book. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that he translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our true prophet on Earth today. I am so grateful to know these things, and to be a part of this wonderful Church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my best to maintain the standards I have set for myself. I fulfill my callings within the Church, which have included being the secretary to two different youth groups and the men in my ward in college, as well as the president of one of the youth groups. I am also on a mission to South Dakota (which is actually more like all of the Dakotas and some surrounding areas), which helps me to strengthen and live my faith.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

There is only one way to know if it is true. That is to study the doctrine, think about it, and ask God (through prayer) if it is true. If you ask sincerely, with a desire to act on the answer you receive, He will tell you through the Holy Ghost. The feelings you get include feelings of peace, comfort, or happiness about what you prayed about. Talk to the missionaries to help you to recognize those feelings. Show more Show less
