Hi I'm Sierra Schaefer

I grew up in California. I love the sunshine. I am serving a mission in New Jersey. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 20 years old and I love anything that has to do with water; surfing, swimming, snorkeling, boating, etc. I love sports and being outdoors. I love being involved in clubs or committees and I love learning about people and their life stories. I have attended BYU-Idaho as a business major since fall 2012. I deferred for the next few semesters because I am serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints in Morristown, New Jersey. I am going to be trained and will learn Spanish in the MTC in Mexico City, Mexico for 6 weeks. Then i will go to New Jersey to teach my faith to all who want the gospel- the teachings of Jesus Christ- in their life. I am excited to dedicate my life to the Lord. I can´t wait to meet new people and start this adventure.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I was raised hearing about the gospel. Many people may think that I was "brainwashed" into doing what my parents have taught me, and to live the way I´ve lived my whole life. But this is not the case. My parents were always very encouraging and they taught me to pray and find out for myself if what I had been taught was true and if I should continue living in my faith. I got my answer. I knew what my parents had taught me was true. I felt in my heart that what I was doing as a member of this church was right. I knew this life was best lived when I followed the principles that my parents and fellow church members taught me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by applying what I learn. Church is important- it's a commandment from God. But to simply go to church is not enough. Application is an important part of living what you learn. In this church, we are taught to love and serve others, to obey God, to follow Jesus Christ, and countless other suggestions on how to live a better life. I love the opportunity I have as a missionary to take a break from school and my home life and dedicate 18 months to help people obtain this happiness that I have. Living my faith helps me be a good example and assures me that I am on the right path.
