Hi I'm Alyssa

I am a recent convert to the church. I have 3 year old twins. The Gospel has had an immeasurable affect on our lives.

About Me

I am a single mother of twins. I had a hard time adjusting to being on my own, but now I am so happy. I work full-time as a caregiver in an Alzheimer's and Dementia unit. Although my job is tough, and often leaves me feelings stressed out, I love being able to help people who cannot help themselves. I am in college full-time also, working to fulfill a goal of becoming a social worker. I am interested in working with young mothers.

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout my life I have felt that I have needed to have a relationship with God. I was raised in a Baptist church, but I felt like something was missing so I went out and began exploring other options. I studied with Jehovah's Witnesses for a few years, but I never really took it that seriously, the whole time I was still living a wild lifestyle. When I was 18 I went Job Corps and although I had some success as far as school went, I was still partying and out of control. When I was 19 I found out that I was pregnant and I had to leave Job Corps and Nursing School, and move back in with my parents. After I had my daughters my parents moved to Maryland and offered to help me make the move and get back into school. How could I resist? I relocated to Maryland and soon after we bought a house about 30 miles from my parents. Experiencing that kind of freedom was too much for me. I almost immediately moved in 4 "friends" and my house was the party place. After I blew through my savings, I had to get a job in order to pay for the bills and upkeep on my home , my "friends" were not willing to help at all, even though I was paying for everything, they would not even help with dishes. After 8 months I got those guests and others they had invited out of my home. During that time and the time after, my favorite story for my daughters was that of the little red hen. Reading this story helped me to realize that I needed to get my priorities straight, so one night I talked to God and told him that if he would just point me in the right direction I promised to follow. I then went outside to smoke a cigarette. That night I met the missionaries and they gave me a Book of Mormon. After some time of studying I took out my piercings. Then not long after I quit drinking alcohol. I started attending church, and I read the Book of Mormon. I had trouble accepting it the first time, but after a year of meeting with missionaries, I got baptized on July 14th, 2013. I am now so happy! Thanks!

How I live my faith

Although I am a recent convert, I received my calling as a ward missionary. I am so excited! I love the Gospel and I am a loving example of how it can affect change in someone's life. Through the Gospel, I have learned to be a better mother, happier with the life that I have, and most of all how to build a lasting relationship with Heavenly Father. I am excited to move forward in the church, I have an incredible support system in the church and I can't wait to be part of someone else's. I think that my calling will allow me to do that while also fitting in with my mothering my children.
