Hi I'm Barbara

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 63 years old. While I was in high school I bounced from church to church looking for one that suited me. I grew up with a Christian father and a mother who did not believe in any religion.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was in college I began learning about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was taught about the boy prophet Joseph Smith who was called to restore the original church of the Savior back to the earth in our day. I learned that we have a prophet on earth today and that he acts as spokeman for Jesus Christ in matters that affect the whole world. I learned that I can have direct contact with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost, which can reveal inspiration to my heart and mind on personal matters. I was taught about the sacred book of scripture called the Book of Mormon which was written on metal plates that were hidden in the ground to come forth at a later time. I have been a member of the church for over 40 years and have come to know that these teachings are true. I am grateful for my church membership and the opportunity have a relationship with my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. I rejoice in the comfort and peace the gospel brings to my soul.

How I live my faith

I attend church meetings on Sunday where it is good to meet with the brothers and sisters in my church family. My husband and I love to travel within the U.S. It is wonderful to attend church in different areas and find that the church is the same wherever we go. We know what to expect. We share common beliefs with those in attendance. Each day I pray to my Father in Heaven through His Son Jesus Christ. I know those prayers are answered; sometimes immediately but more often in God's own timing and in ways which may differ from what I was expecting. Each day I take time to read scriptures which are the words of prophets recorded to help us return to our Father in Heaven's presence one day.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

My faith in Jesus Christ leads me to study His teachings. In the scriptures I learn of His love for others and marvel at the way He treated all people. He was a man of perfect integrity. He didn't say the popular things that people may have wanted to hear, but He told the truth. He told them what they needed to hear and do to be saved in His kingdom after this life. He loved and served without reservation. He taught that as a person loses himself in service to Him, he will find himself. As I become more like my Savior, it affects the way I relate to others, especially those who are closest to me- within my own family. Show more Show less
