Hi I'm Steve

I'm a husband, father, grandfather and engineer. My wife and I will soon be serving a mission in England. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was baptized just before my 15th birthday in 1967. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a masters degree in Civil Engineering. I served a 2 year mission for the church in Australia in 1972-1974. My wife and I will be serving a Senior Mission in England, working with the Young Single Adults. As a young man I played piano in a dance band and played high school baseball. I enjoyed coaching my sons' baseball and soccer teams. Since retiring I love to find opportunities to provide service, especially when I can use the talents my Heavenly Father has blessed me with to help others. My most favorite thing to do is spend time with my wife, our children and our grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in my early teens I attended a community church and then a neighborhood protestant church searching for a religion that taught doctrines that I could understand and felt were true. I did not continue to attend these churches. A few months later missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invited me to listen to their message. The doctrines they taught felt true to me and I felt a special spirit when they were teaching. As they invited me to pray about their messages, it allowed me to find out for myself if their message was true by asking my Heavenly Father to direct my decision. I have learned to trust that Heavenly Father answers prayers and I can Know what is true and right by the way I feel. The Holy Ghost can 'tell' me what is true and what God wants me to do. It has happened so many times in my life. I know that God lives, that His Son Jesus Christ is my Savior and that His church has been restored in these latter days. Essential ordinances of exaltation are available through the restored priesthood of His church. These are great blessings I hold dear in my life because I know my wife and I and our family can return to our Heavenly Father and live with Him as an eternal family.

How I live my faith

I love teaching high school age students in our early morning seminary for the nearby high school and the college age single adults at Institute. These students are so eager to know their Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ and to feel the influence of the Holy Ghost in their lives. It is a joy to teach them. For three years my wife and I spend much of our free time involved with eight congregations of young single adults in our church. It was such a wonderful experience to see their talents, their desires to be like our Savior and their willingness to serve each other. That so impacted our lives that we are overjoyed to have received the mission assignment to continue that association with those in northern England. For many years I was a volunteer Boy Scout Leader. I watched many of them achieve and grow into manhood, which was a real blessing for me. I believe that what I do to serve my fellowmen is an important part of how I show my faith in Jesus Christ and how I can magnify His influence in the world. Opportunities for service have magnified since I retired, having a much more flexible schedule. I believe that everyone has the responsibility to improve themselves and should become better examples of the Savior as they grow in experience.
