Hi I'm Keawe

I'm from Salt Lake City, Utah, I play rugby, I'm going to pharmacy school, and best of all I am a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in mostly in Utah with a few years in Idaho because we moved a lot when I was a kid. My parents divorced when I was 6 and lived in a broken home till I left for college. My passion is sports and being raised in the Rockies I love to snowboard. I enjoy all types of sports and my other hobbies are traveling to see new places and people. People are so interesting and cultures are very fascinating to me. My life dream is to travel to every continent and learn of the various cultures found in them. I am a first year pharmacy student at LECOM in Erie, Pa. I am working towards specializing in Oncology and want to work in a hospital on the west coast. In April 2014, I married my best friend and she and I have been traveling the US since then!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised attending church and was baptized at the age of 8. I grew up learning about the church but never knew if it was true. When I was a teenage I choose to refrain from participating in the activities in the church. For years I lived my life how I wanted. I moved from Utah to Idaho to attend college. I had the college experience that I wanted and thought my life was perfect. In my second semester a friend invited me to hear him speak in church before he left for a mission. I went because we had been friend for many years and thought it was his decision and why not go and get free food afterwards. I went and afterwards at his house I saw another friend and he asked me if I was planning on going on a mission. I responded with a stern no. He ended the conversation with the question, "then what will you do with your life?" and walked away. This question hit me in the heart and I pondered about my life. After a week, I decided to find the truth about what I had been taught as a child. I bought a Book of Mormon and began reading it. I started off slowly but eventually I was reading ten chapters a day. After a month of reading and attending church, I was in the Book of Ether and the missionaries asked me to search for a conviction like Ether and to try and receive it through prayer. They showed me scriptures about how to pray in order to receive answers. That evening after reading, I knelt and prayed and put my entire heart and desire into knowing if it was true. I felt something so soft and so distinct that I knew it was the spirit and I had an overwhelming conviction that this Book and church were true. I knew that God existed and that Jesus Christ existed and that they loved me. I knew that the Book of Mormon was the true word of God and this knowledge allowed me to make the choice to live according to the commandments and the Gospel that God had restore through Joseph Smith and that continue today in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

My faith is trying to emulate the life of Jesus Christ. He is the Master and I want to become like him. The life of Christ was a life dedicated to serving and helping others. I have had many opportunities to give to others and let them grow and become something better. I went on a mission to Peru where I learned to be selfless and it gave me the opportunity to learn the beautiful language of spanish. With the completion of this mission, I returned home and now look for opportunities to give to others. I have been fortunate to be able to teach people, in Mexico, English via Skype and see them try and better their lives. I think another way I have been able to help others is through the privilege to go out and visit families more than once a month. Through the church of Jesus Christ I am able to visit families and share a message about the Masters gospel. I have been attending Brigham Young University of Idaho and so in my ward we have just single young adults. This has been great because I really have the ability to bless the women I visit through other ways of serving like blessings, temporal needs, a car ride or jumping a car, to more spiritual needs of the spirit in their home. I think with my faith the most important part is bringing Christ to the center of my life and future family unit. As I look to receive strength in the scriptures and prayer I can know that I can do all things through the power of the Master, Jesus Christ.
