Hi I'm Skyla Hill

I'm a North Carolinian, I am an artist, and a lover of music...and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Ever since I was a young girl, growing up in the coastlands of North Carolina, I have been filled with a desire to make my parents and my Heavenly Father proud of me. I wanted to do well in the different aspects of my life from schoolwork to Personal Progress, Karate, and my personal studying and learning. This desire has led me to strive to feel God’s pleasure in my actions and decisions. In working to be the best I can be, I have decided to serve a mission for the LDS church. I have been called to serve in the Las Vegas, Nevada Mission and I am looking forward to eighteen months of serving the people there.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon. I was raised in the LDS church and baptized as a member at the age of eight. I was taught from my infancy to love God and honor Him, but I have never been one to blindly follow the crowd. Everything I do and work for has always been for me and stems from my own choices. I know the principles and teachings of this church to be true, therefore I follow them. To me it is partly a matter of logic; I know the teaching of the Mormon religion are true, therefore I follow them willingly. I can see the blessings the church has brought into my life and I feel in my heart the truthfulness of it. I am a Mormon because I choose to be and for me, that’s the same as choosing life or choosing to be happy. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ and I look forward to continuing in my education and my knowledge of the gospel as I learn and grow in this church.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday by example and obedience. I am the oldest of three siblings and I’ll be the first girl to serve a mission in my immediate and extended family. I know that my younger siblings and the people around me are watching me and the decisions I make; this certainly adds pressure to my actions, but I also know that this can be a positive way for me to share my beliefs with the people around me. I think to myself, “how would Jesus Christ react in this situation?” and I try to emulate his perfect example. If I can act in a way that is representing Christ-like attributes, then maybe I can help others to come to know Christ better as well. Christ worked most often by quiet example and I know we can all learn from Him.
