Hi I'm Don Laub

I choose to be a Mormon. With all the wrong choices made in my life, it is comforting to have made one I know is right.

About Me

I am 60 years old, a little over weight, eye sight starting to go, hearing getting bad, knees hurt all the time along with many other aches and pains, which makes being an auto mechanic a little tougher than it used to be. Yet, I have many things to be thankful for. A beautiful tolerant wife that loves me, three great children that have brought joy and frustration to our lives, as all children do. And 4 1/2 grand children, one of our daughters is expecting in October. ahh grand children. they make all the frustrations of life and raising children worth every minute. It is like getting a second chance to redo things you may not of gotten quite right the first time around. About the frustrations and challenges of life, as my wife tells me, "our life may not be perfect, but it hasn't been boring."

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a Mormon. I have lived 60 years and have concluded that individuals choices are influenced one of 2 ways, fear and reason. Children make most of there correct choices out of fear, fear of consequences from being wrong, fear of what others might think of them. As an adult I believe I must make choices using reason, exercising agency. The scriptures tell us we must act and not be acted upon. Choosing that which is true, using the knowledge I have gained from the lessons I have been taught, those truths being confirmed by the Holy Ghost. Then choosing what is right, that I might live true, eternal principles, principles that bring happiness and joy in this life and the eternal life we all go to after this. I have a long family history in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the lessons taught to me by those who went before, have been a great influence on my life, but not a guaranty that I would make correct choices. Some of life's lessons I had to learn for myself, life is hard, sometimes it seems things just don't work out as we hope, dream and plan, no matter how hard we try. I now know through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that our Father in Heaven loves us, He created the plan of salvation, beautifully explained in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. The lessons of life can be fill with happiness and joy, no matter the circumstances of your life. I know this to be an eternal truth and I invite all find out these truths for yourselves. There are so many blessings our Father in Heaven has in store for us all, as we choose to obey His commandments in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. These and many more reasons is why I Choose to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Living my faith has been a life long roller coaster ride. Highs and lows that, thinking back were caused by the choices I made. Most of the highs happened while being called to teach classes at church. Most of what I know about our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ was taught to me while teaching to the youth. The lessons are simple, easy to understand so even a child can know the nature of God, who He is and His roll in our lives. Who Jesus Christ is and His roll in our lives. How the Holy Ghost can be a constant companion bringing comfort, encouragement, warnings and conformation of truth. Making this life, in spite of ourselves, happier and closer to God. I now teach an adult class, funny thing, the lessons are the same. In a complicated world, it is comforting to know the restored gospel is not complicated and gives direction and meaning to your life. To know God is, and that He loves me, in spite of my weaknesses is humbling and makes me want to be a better man.
