Hi I'm Ben

I grew up in Arkansas. I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Utah but moved to Arkansas fairly young. I am a graduate student studying Counseling Psychology right now. I love backpacking, reading, watching movies, and playing games with my family. I am married and my wife and I have a daughter who fills our life with sweetness, and sometimes sleep deprivation. I love life and enjoy experiencing new things.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who are very faithful members of the church. I grew up believing in what they said, but there came a point in my life where I needed to know for myself if the things they taught were true. I read the Book of Mormon, and prayed a lot to know if it was true. It was when I started doing that, that I began to feel more peace and direction in my life. I felt guided to make good decisions and every time I thought about the church I was filled with a sense of purpose. I did this test several times and through asking God, through prayer if these things are true, I came to know if for myself. This is why I'm a Mormon, because I feel as though God has responded to my prayers to tell me that this is the true Church of Jesus Christ upon the earth today. I trust that if I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, as taught by His servants the prophets, I will have peace in this life, and will be able to live with my family and God forever after I die. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church of Christ on the earth today. I also know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, that the Book of Mormon and the Bible are true books that lead us to Christ. I also know that Thomas S Monson is a prophet of God and that the first presidency and quorum of the Twelve Apostles are true prophets upon the earth. This testimony means a lot to me, because it gives me security that God loves me and all of His children enough to not leave them in darkness, but to call prophets to lead and guide us even today, just as He did in ancient times.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by studying the Holy Scriptures and by trying my hardest to apply their teachings to my life. I strive to share the message of the peace Christ can bring to people and pray that many people can receive this peace in their lives. I spent two years serving an LDS mission in Colombia where I taught people about the church and about the blessings made available through Jesus Christ and His gospel. Also something I participate in is the churches "Home teaching" program, which means that I, with another member of the church, go to visit other members to offer friendship, help, and spiritual support to them and their families. My family holds family home evening on Monday evenings where we discuss the gospel and have fun activities. One of the most important things I do is try to serve others whenever I can. Service projects, notes of encouragement, and other things I do are to help others feel joy in this life. I also do family history and attend LDS temples to learn more about God and Jesus Christ while performing ordinances for my ancestors so they can live with God and our family forever.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

For me, the Atonement of Jesus Christ is what enables me to have a fresh start in life. We all make mistakes and wish we could take them back. Jesus Christ loves us so much, He sacrificed himself so that we can make that fresh start. He asks us to follow Him to receive the full impact of His Atoning Sacrifice. We follow Him through exercising faith in Him, repenting, being baptized and confirmed by someone with proper authority, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, being obedient, receiving gospel ordinances, and endeavoring to live a life like Him. Through doing these things, the Atonement lets us feel peace and happiness despite our challenges in this life. Show more Show less
