Hi I'm Jay

I grew up in North Carolina. I work for the Boy Scouts and as an Officer in the Army National Guard. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married with a wonderful wife and an amazing son! I enjoy going to baseball games, cook outs with friends, family time, playing sports with friends, and shamefully, a video game or two when time permits. One of my favorite life achievements is earning my Eagle Scout award. I do occasionally read at night before bed, the books vary, right now I am splitting time between "We Were Soldiers Once and Young" by LTG Ret. Hal Moore, and "Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin. I also have read and enjoyed the Harry Potter Series, The Chronicles of Narnia, Percy Jackson series, and a couple Dan Brown books namely "Angels and Demons" and "The Lost Symbol." I am the oldest of four syblings, I enjoy classic rock music as well as country and contemporary Christian music.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I grew up in the Church but more importantly, I have gained a testimony of its teachings for myself. My family on both sides is predominantly Christian but other denominations so my family are like modern day pioneers. I have attended church many times as a youth and even was inactive for a brief bit of my young adult life, but have always felt that the teachings of the church are true and more importantly that our Savior is alive and wants to be apart of our lives. The Plan of Salvation is also something that appeals to me greatly and gives me peace of mind to know where we came from, why we are here, and what and where we can go and become with our families if we are faithful to Heavenly Father's plan. There have been personal feelings and instances in my life where I have directly benefitted from things that I have prayed about and even things that I didn't but knew it only could have came from divine intervention. These faith promoting experiences further add to my testimony and I know that while there are many religious truths in the world, there is one that is a little more true and complete. I truly believe I have found that truth.

How I live my faith

My family and I attend church fairly but sometimes my military schedule permits me from participating. I serve as a teacher in our Sunday School activities. Recently, I made home teaching visits for the first time in a long while. My family has family prayer pretty regularly, and family scripture study semi regularly, but we are working to improve our family scripture study and personal prayers. We try to have the missionaries for meals and if the opportunity presents itself, we enjoy performing acts of service with them whether its giving them rides or helping with anything else they may need. We pay our tithing regularly and try serve those around us the best we can.
