Hi I'm Donna

I'm "Mom" to 3 great daughters and "Nana" to 12 wonderful grandchildren. I love retirement and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

36 years ago I joined the church. I was a young, married mother of a three year old daughter at the time. So I missed the opportunity to serve a mission. That opportunity surfaced in a surprising way most recently. I made the decision to retire after 30 years of school teaching. Soon after that decision was solidified, the blessings started coming. A darling home right next door to my daughter, her husband and 4 adorable granddaughters became available. Then, I got a phone call saying the mission office needed a service mission secretary to help with comings and goings of the missionaries. Suddenly, I was on a new path. Grandparenting and missionary work are two of my greatest loves and every day I get to do a little of both.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Catholic and often found comfort in saying the rote prayers associated with my rosary. But as a young mother, I began to feel the need to pray with my own words. After several experiences where I was sure I had had direct answers to my prayers, I began to pray fervently, “Lord show me the church you like the best.” Soon the missionaries were in my front yard organizing their flip charts (1976). I invited them in, listened to their message and knew immediately they were the answer to my prayers. A few years later my husband joined and for the next 20 some years we raised our daughters together in the church. When our girls were on their own, we found that our hearts were not knit together as they should be so we divorced. Though single, I feel like I have a full life. I can feel my Savior’s love, the love of my immediate family, extended family, church family and dear friends. Today, I have a great love and appreciation for my three daughters and my three sons -in- law. They are lovingly raising their families according to the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My favorite scripture is 3 John 1:4, which says, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth”

How I live my faith

I try to stay centered on studying the gospel, praying sincerely and serving. I love working with the 8 year old children as a Primary teacher, being a visiting teacher, serving my family and helping the missionaries. I have a testimony that striving to live the commandments qualifies me for inspiration. Knowing I am receiving inspiration from the Lord helps me so much. In today’s world we need that anchor, that foundation of our Lord and Savior. We never know what lies around the corner. The Lord does and He prepares us if we let Him. I consider it a great privilege to be a member of the Lord’s true church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
