Hi I'm Mav Patchett

I grew up in Mesa and Las Vegas, I'm a physics major in college, a missionary in Washington and I'm a Mormon

About Me

Hey, everyone! I am the second of six children in my family whom I love very much and while the do get on my nerves sometimes I wouldn't trade them for anything. I learned how to play the trumpet when I was only 12 years old and played through high school as a jazz major. I graduated high school in 2012 and started my first year of college as a physics major and started down the track as a cadet in the Air Force ROTC. I love modifying Nerf blasters and building LEGOs. I am a small time gamer who loves to play locally or online with friends. The music I listen to is a big throw back to my dad's generation with artists like RUSH and Boston being the main genre. I started longboarding and snowboarding at college and love both. I love art and writing lyrics.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an LDS family and have been raised in the church my whole life. Some might think that means that I'm only doing what I was taught and that if there were something else I would not be a "Mormon". That is simply not true. For most of my teenage years I doubted that it was the true gospel of Christ. It wasn't till I became a part of the Zion's Youth Symphony that I really knew it. In Las Vegas it is hard to be Mormon but a large group of youth came together to share what we knew (or hoped to in my case) through music both instrumental and choral. I had been rehearsing with the bass section of the choir and I felt small tinges on my heart, but the rest didn't come till the performance. We performed the Lamb of God Symphony written by Rob Gardner. By the last two movements I had nearly lost my ability to sing the Spirit was so strong. I could not fight the tears and as I sang " Israel rejoice! Sing all creation! Jesus is risen with life in his wings! Raise up your voice, Sing our salvation! Now more than conquerors through Him, our King!" The feeling was tangible. And I heard in my mind as clear as if someone had spoken it. "This is true, He did live and die for you and now he lives again. And he loves you!" Never since then have I doubted that this is where I am meant to be. It is true. If it was not I would not still be a member. This is why I am still a Mormon. I will never question again, I know what I know and I hope others will feel the peace that comes from the gospel of Christ.

How I live my faith

I have only been back in my home ward for a few months since being home from college. But in that time I have been attending a mission preparation class and meeting with other members to learn what their missions have been like. I do not work on Sunday ever nor do I play video games. I leave this day for worship of the Lord and that is it. I have been called to serve a mission and served in Santiago, Chile and now in Federal Way, Washington teaching what I have learned to be true and I hope that others will have the chance to feel what I have felt when I learned without a doubt that the gospel has been restored.
