Hi I'm Mike Tinsley

Im a parapalegic, I served in the USMC four years and seventeen in the USN, I'm a convert and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a paraplegic. I served four years in the USMC and seventeen in the USN. Now I kayak with the VAMC and adaptive adventures. Every Wednesday I kayak, every Thursday I sail boat and Friday is hand cycling. About three years ago some LDS missionaries knocked on my door and usually I turned them away but this time something told me "you need to listen to these guys!" So I invited them in and they proceeded to teach me about the LDS religion and beliefs and it was something I could relate to. I felt like it was finally something I had been looking for after 50 years of looking at different religions. They invited me to go to church with them and I was very impressed with the services and I had never met people like that before. I was comfortable and I felt at home and belonged. After two weeks and talking with members, I requested to be baptized. Ever since then I know that this is the true church and what I have been seeking for most of my adult life.

Why I am a Mormon

I just feel so much closer to God, and he is close. He never changes, he is always there but its up to us to determine how close we want to be to him. I love the sacrament services. How the speakers are chosen from the congregation. From the older speakers to the young ones, every one is so in tune with the spirit. The atmosphere in the building is so different from the world. So peaceful and serene. Every Sunday I become more knowledgeable about God, myself, and those around me. I know that I am happier. This is the FIRST church that I looked forward to going to church every Sunday. I have been to many others and this is the only one that I am excited every week to attend. We have a living prophet and all the other leadership positions found in the bible. Every six months the teachings at the world wide church conference is phenomenal! Another thing that I look forward to. We can trace the authority to administer in the church back to Jesus Christ himself. This is his Church. I know that I must believe in him and follow him. My job is to continue to learn and grow. To do his will is all I want to do. I am more tolerant of many things that, before I found the church I found intolerable.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday. I practice what I have been taught. I practice the golden rule. I love how no one is paid in the church. The generosity that I see in those I go to church with is amazing. Every one is helping each other out and treats everyone equal. I feel like even though some are more successful then others, it doesn't matter who you are or where you came from, everyone is equal and we are all on the same playing field. I participate in the Home Teaching program and every time I teach I become stronger, teaching you learn too. Some of the members in the church are so knowledgeable that it has really helped me gain an understanding of my purpose for being here and what my job is. my life is much more meaningful and I feel like I am doing the lords work. I have received numerous blessings and my cup runneth over.
