Hi I'm Amy

I was born in New Zealand. I live in Australia. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello, people of the world! My name is Amy, meaning "beloved" in French. I love to read. I love to write. I love to draw. I love to sing. I love to talk...a little too much. And I think way too much! Trust me, it's possible. Just look up the word "over-think." But, most of all, I love my family. How much? Well, have you seen "The Incredibles"? In the aftermath of a glorious victory, Dash Parr says, "I love our family!" Ha ha, I find myself saying that all the time. My greatest achievement in life, so far, is the Bachelor Science in Psychology that I worked, and worked hard, for at BYU-Hawaii. This is soon to be outdone by my quest to serve a full-time mission! And I'm telling the truth, when I say that: THIS is exciting stuff!

Why I am a Mormon

HOW did it start? Look at my childhood I followed my mother each Sunday to church WHY did I stay? I became a teenager Amidst troubles and heartache I turned unto God Right now, I'm an adult My FAITH has been questioned I'll tell you all now that: "I know it's the TRUTH." Some might say it's how I was raised. I was raised to be like this. But I'll laugh and tell you all now, "It isn't." It has been MY CHOICE always. All I ask for is the TRUTH. And I have always found it RIGHT HERE. You can ask all the questions you want. The truth is absolute. It's always the same. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He lived for us to show us how. He suffered and died for us, so that He could take away all the guilt and the pain, if we would let Him. He loves us. He said: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). And we too are Sons and Daughters of God, the Father. At the age of 14, Joseph Smith wanted to know: "Who is right?" and "Which church should I join?" He had the courage and the faith to ask God. In a vision he saw Jesus Christ and God, the Father. And this simple farm boy was chosen to be the man who would bring back the truth, the whole truth. Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. He translated the "Book of Mormon" by the power of God and the words and events in that book are true. And we are blessed, even now, to have a Prophet of God. His name is Thomas S. Monson. This is my testimony. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Right now, I am teaching single adults of 18-30, like myself, every Sunday about different aspects of our faith and the history of our church. I am certainly not the greatest teacher, but I am a great learner. Some Sundays, I learn more than the members of my class. As a teacher, I look at my responsibility as a performance I give every Sunday. The keyword is "ENGAGE." When I perform, what I hope for is that the class members will THINK for themselves and when I say "THINK" I mean "THINK HONESTLY." But more than that, I want them to FEEL. And you may ask: "Feel what?" Well, we call it "feeling the Spirit." Ha ha, and if you want to know any more, I suggest asking a few good QUESTIONS or as many as you like. To me FAITH is more than just a belief. Faith is to FEEL, to THINK, and to DO. Faith is to LIVE. For me, that means striving to be like Jesus Christ EVERY DAY. And that doesn't necessarily mean gathering followers, performing miracles, or dying for anyone. What it means is to LOVE others even though it can be so hard. What it means is to bring HAPPINESS to others because this world has far too much doom and gloom. What it means is to search for the TRUTH no matter how unbelievable it may seem, no matter how much it may hurt...when you're starting out, no matter who may think you are stupid or wrong. And then to SHARE that truth, which is what I'm doing right now.

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes. While we are called "Mormons," due to our unique book of scripture, "The Book of Mormon," the official name of our church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." As it says in 2 Nephi 25:26: "And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." Christ is at the centre of our religion, even the very centre of our lives. Is this not what it means to be a Christian?" Show more Show less
