Hi I'm Lisa

I'm an Atlanta girl living in Seattle. I studied neuroscience and voice in college. I adore my little family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When I was in preschool, my mom asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and on a little piece of construction paper, she helped me write my answer, "a doctor, a singer, and a mommy." Two decades later, I'm living the dream!! Well, close enough. In college, I studied neuroscience (as a pre-medical major) and minored in music--voice was my instrument. While marrying my husband made it impractical for me to pursue a career as a psychiatrist, I hope to one day continue my education because I love learning. But in the meantime, I am thoroughly enjoying motherhood while putting my husband through dental school.

Why I am a Mormon

The simple answer to why I'm a Mormon is, living and understanding the gospel makes me happy. I've grown up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and my conversion to the gospel has been a slow, steady process. However, I've learned a lot along the way. I love my family, and the gospel has blessed me with the knowledge that my family is eternal. What an incredible blessing! Living as a faithful member of the church has helped me become a better person. I love my Savior, and I am so grateful for His atonement that allows me to be forgiven of my mistakes. And I am grateful for his patience as I learn how to become more like Him. The gospel has helped me find direction and peace in my life. By following its principles, I've been able to set my priorities which has led me to find incredible joy. The greatest blessings in my life have come as a direct result of living the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are so many reasons why I am a Mormon! I have a testimony that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I've lived it. I have and continue to experience the blessings that come from living it. And I am so grateful that the gospel is a part of my life.

How I live my faith

For me living my faith is all about the little things. I always try to do what's right, no matter the consequences. Living my faith is about my daily choices: kneeling to pray each night before I go to bed, taking time to talk to someone having a bad day, being honest, bringing an overwhelmed new mom dinner for her family, taking care of the body I've been blessed with, recognizing my blessings, and selflessly serving my little family. Living my faith is about growing as a person and becoming more like my Savior. It's a learning process and a wonderful adventure.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Yes!! This is one of the most beautiful doctrines of the gospel. We believe that families are forever. We will be able to be with our loved ones again after this life. Our Heavenly Father loves us and has given us families to help us grow in this life and in the one to come. In the church, we are married in sacred temples that we dedicate to the Lord. These marriages are often referred to as "sealings" because we believe that marriage binds us and our children together for all eternity. What a blessing! Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Ward/stake/branch are words we use to describe various sizes of our congregations. (Each member is assigned a congregation depending on where they live.) A ward is a congregation that you meet with every Sunday for worship services. A branch is kind of like a small ward. And a stake is a collection of a dozen+ wards and branches that meets for more regional meetings. Show more Show less

Who are the Mormons?

"Mormon" is a nickname given to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints probably because we believe in a book of scripture entitled "The Book of Mormon" in addition to the Holy Bible. Mormons are Christians--followers of Jesus Christ. We strive to live His gospel and be an influence for good in the world. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes!! We believe that Thomas S. Monson is God's chosen prophet today. Heavenly Father has established the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with the same structural organization as in Biblical times. President Monson receives guidance from God to help us learn, find joy, and stay safe in the crazy world we live in. I know that by listening to our prophet today, we can grow closer to God and find happiness in our lives. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

I love learning. I come from a long line of educators, doctors, and engineers. What I've come to find is the more I learn about the world, the more amazing it becomes, and the more impossible it is that all this could come into being by chance. For example, my new baby girl tells me that there is a God. She is perfect in every way, and I marvel at the miracle of her creation. So many tiny details had to fall into place for her to be born with a healthy body, let alone an individual personality full of life and opinions! To get right down to it, what about this world, this universe, doesn't tell me that there is a God?! Show more Show less
